Disney Wish Float Out: Disney Cruise Ship Hits Water for the First Time

by | Feb 14, 2022 | DCL News, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Wish

The Disney Wish float out was a monumental milestone that saw Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Wish, hit water for the very first time. Scroll on for details.

Following a rough start this year, with announcements that the Wish’s maiden voyage had been delayed to mid-July, Disney Cruise Line was able to broadcast a major milestone on Feb. 11: the Disney Wish float out, which marked the first time the cruise ship hit water since it started its construction journey.

The Disney Wish Hits Water

To get the Disney Wish out of its warehouse building dock and onto the water, the engineering team behind the Disney Wish had to flood the building at the Meyer Werft shipyard. It took about 5 hours to flood the building dock with the 29 million gallons of water needed from the River Ems to get the Wish out the gate.

And boy, was it a close call. According to Disney, there was just 3 feet of water on either side of the Wish as she emerged from the building and onto the river.

The occasion was marked with great fanfare: memorable music, fireworks across the German sky, and, of course, a visit from Captain Minnie herself.

The Disney Wish Maiden Voyage

Because of construction delays, largely due to the Omicron variant of COVID-19, Disney had to delay the Wish’s maiden voyage. Her first voyage starts on July 14. If you had previously booked an early cruise on the Disney Wish, your schedule may have changed.
