Welcome to the Second Renaissance
Disney’s Second Renaissance (also known as the Revival Era) kicked off in 2010 and has been tremendously successful, with hits like Frozen, Moana, Tangled, and The Princess and the Frog, plus films that casual audiences are truly sleeping on, like Wreck-It Ralph and Big Hero 6.

The latest film to join the Revival Era? Encanto, a new Disney film slated for a Fall 2021 release.

Disney Encanto Trailer Is Magical
The trailer welcomes us to Casa Madrigal, a place “where all are exceptional, fantastical, magical … except Mirabel.” Even in the short minute and a half that Disney has given us (um, more please, Disney?), we get insights into the true magic of those on Casa Madrigal. Some can bench-press pianos, others can shape-shift into their friends and family, some can make it rain flowers, and still others can tame the wildest of animals.

But Mirabel? There’s nothing special about her. (Would it be a Disney film if there wasn’t someone who was different from the rest?)

In the trailer, someone jokes that maybe Mirabel’s gift is “being in denial.” But this ain’t our first rodeo; in true Disney fashion, I’m sure we will see Mirabel’s ordinariness become the thing that Casa Madrigal needs most.

This movie will bring so much to the table. Mirabel, for example, is voiced by Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn 99 fame—and, more recently, In the Heights, a film based on Lin-Manuel Miranda’s stage musical. And speaking of Miranda, the Hamilton and Moana composer wrote the songs for Encanto. Talk about a star-studded team where everyone is exceptional, fantastical, and magical.
The film still has a few months before it releases, so keep your eyes peeled for another Encanto trailer to drop in the meantime.
