2023 WDW Magazine Wall Calendar- Featuring Disney Castles of the World! On Sale Now!

Fireworks are a perfect way to end a day at a Disney Park, but the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to the spectacles to encourage social distancing

With restrictions easing, it’s time to light up the night once more, and Hong Kong Disneyland is launching a new show, Momentous, to celebrate.

Momentous took to the sky on June 18, 2022, after more than five years of hard work. Disney shared a preview earlier in the month that was attended by Paul Chan, Financial Secretary of the Hong Kong SAR Government, and Michael Moriarty, managing director of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort.

They were joined on stage by hosts Mickey and Minnie!

“Despite the daunting challenges of COVID, Hong Kong Disneyland just keeps thinking bolder. And what can be bigger, more awe-inspiring, than ‘Momentous,’ a multimedia storytelling spectacular after five years in the dreaming and creating,” said Financial Secretary Chan. “After all, the power of Disney magic had attracted more than 88 million guests to Hong Kong Disneyland since its opening in 2005, a number sure to soar in the momentous months, and years, to come.”

All the Bells and Whistles

Like a true Disney production, Momentous uses more than just rockets to awe park guests. According to Hong Kong Disneyland, the new show uses projections, lasers, theatrical lighting, choreographed water fountains, pyrotechnics, and more to enhance the viewing experience.

The whole show took more than five years to develop and is meant to follow life from birth to adulthood.

It will also touch on themes like love and the people who inspire us during its six chapters and show over 150 characters from about 40 Disney and Pixar stories.

Attention Collectors: New Merch for Momentous at Disneyland Hong Kong

Hong Kong Disneyland has launched a whole merch line to celebrate Momentous, including masks, pins, shirts, and headbands made to pop in the night.

Meet the Stars

Hong Kong Disneyland wants Momentous to feel like a part of the day, instead of just the end.

While enjoying Momentous, guests can visit the Annex to use a specially themed backdrop or meet characters from the popular films featured in the display.

Certain attractions will also continue to run under the glow of the fireworks.

Holding a spot for fireworks can steal a lot of time from a Disney day. To make things easier, you can book a special experience for Momentous.

Choose the Disneyland Hotel’s Starlight Picnic for a packed meal and a special place on the lawn to watch the show.

If you prefer to skip to dessert, the Starlight Diner will offer a dessert buffet before Momentous begins and access to reserved seating. Special treats slated to appear on the buffet include a Peter Pan Tinkerbelle Lemon Cupcake and an Aladdin Chai Tea Mango Mousse Cake.

As of publication, Momentous is currently only scheduled to run through August 2022, so booking soon is a good idea if you plan to attend.
