September 12th marked Hong Kong Disneyland’s 15th Anniversary!
Let’s celebrate with our sister park in China.
Walt Disney’s magical stories, charming characters, and wondrous animation have an appeal that spans the globe—even to the other side of the world.
Back in the early 2000s, the Mouse’s growing popularity in China led to the launch of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, nestled in the northeast corner of Hong Kong’s largest island.
Hong Kong Disneyland’s 15th Anniversary
When the park first opened its gates to enthusiastic visitors on September 12, 2005, it was a monumental moment for the company and for the numerous Disney fans in Asia.
The opening ceremony brought together many famous Chinese singers, musicians, and performers (including Jackie Chan!) who filled the streets with spirited Mandarin and Cantonese covers of beloved Disney songs.
Now, as the park celebrates its 15th birthday, Hong Kong Disneyland wants you to join in the fun!
But don’t worry—you don’t need to book a flight to China to participate. Even if you don’t live in near Hong Kong, you can still take part in the birthday festivities from your home. Like so many other events in 2020, this anniversary bash is also virtual.
JOIN THE PARTY!
Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, and other classic Disney characters held an online celebration on September 12, complete with a scrumptious cake and confetti.
They’ve invited you to share your own birthday wishes and blessings for the park on the Hong Kong Disneyland Facebook page.
Disneyana collectors take note: You can get your hands on some exclusive 15th anniversary swag.
The park has launched a special tote bag and matching pin depicting Mickey and Minnie in front of the park’s Castle of Magical Dreams to commemorate this milestone. Its vivid sapphire background accentuates the themed confetti pattern wrapped around it.
If you want this stylish gift for a fellow Disney fan—or for yourself—you’ll have to pick it up in person at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel.
So, although your purchase won’t ship to your door, at least you have a good reason to hop on a plane and take an overseas vacation to Hong Kong Disneyland!
A LOOK INSIDE HONG KONG DISNEYLAND
Although it’s the smallest Disneyland park, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort offers many creative attractions that are inspired by Chinese culture.
For visitors familiar with the Disney parks in the United States, Hong Kong Disneyland is both recognizable and distinctly fresh.
Alongside signature attractions like Jungle River Cruise, “it’s a small world,” Mickey’s PhilharMagic, and Mad Hatter Tea Cups, the park features an abundance of unique attractions you’ll only find there.
You can spend days strolling through the whimsical designs of its seven parks: Adventureland, Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Toy Story Land, Mystic Point, Grizzly Gulch, and — of course — Main Street, U.S.A.
Each area, though packed with wonderful attractions, is markedly peaceful due to the park’s adherence to feng shui principles in the layout of its walkways, buildings, and other geographical elements.
Have you ever visited Hong Kong Disneyland Resort or one of the other international Disney Parks? What was your favorite part?
