These Changes Are Coming to Walt Disney World Resorts in 2024

by | Dec 26, 2023 | Walt Disney World Resorts, WDW Blog

Big renovations, new additions, and exciting changes are happening at a few of Walt Disney World’s resorts throughout 2024. Here’s what you can expect when you visit throughout the year.

If you’re planning to stay at one of Walt Disney World’s many resorts during your 2024 visits, take note: Changes are happening across the resorts! 2024 is a year that’s bringing a whole lot of new to Disney World’s numerous resorts, including renovations of popular hotels and even a few new additions that you won’t want to miss the opportunity to experience for yourself. What can you expect? From new Disney Vacation Club options to resort refurbishments and changes, there are some things you should be aware of if you are planning to stay on property in the new year.

Disney’s Boardwalk is Under Renovation

Disney’s Boardwalk, Boardwalk Inn, and Boardwalk Villas are currently in the midst of a huge renovation. The Boardwalk itself is currently being renovated and will receive some new dining options and refurbishments in 2024, bringing exciting new offerings in the not-too-distant future.

Within the hotel, most of the room renovations taking place are now finished. Numerous details have been given a refresh, from updated wallpaper to new chairs, curtains and artwork – so those who’ve booked a 2024 stay at the Boardwalk Inn or Villas will have the chance to stay in a revamped room. Throughout 2024, the lobby will be receiving a bit of a facelift, and renovations will also be taking place in a few other public areas around the resort.

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa is Getting an Updated Lobby

A lot of work has been happening at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa! In 2023, the resort’s rooms were refreshed, providing guests with luxuriously updated accommodations (including new Murphy beds and touches of theming inspired by Mary Poppins). While these changes are beautiful, that’s not where they end.

During the 2023 holiday season, crews took a pause on construction, but the refurbishment work will resume in January 2024. The lobby of the Grand Floridian is getting updated, meaning much of the work will be visible for guests visiting in 2024. Plus, it’s anticipated that two dining options – 1900 Park Fare and the Grand Floridian Tea Room – will not be coming back until the lobby refurbishment is done.

Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is Adding a Tower

One of the most exciting additions to the Walt Disney World Resort hotels is the addition of a brand-new Disney Vacation Club tower at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Located between Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and the Wedding Pavilion at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, this new addition on the shores of the Seven Seas Lagoon will offer guests new resort accommodations not currently available.

If you’re planning to stay at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort any time during 2024, we recommend you steer clear of buildings that are closer to the construction, since they can be noisier. Buildings like Fiji and Tuvalu will be most noticeably impacted by the construction and noise.

Disney Vacation Club Cabins Are Coming to Fort Wilderness Campground

350 new cabins are set to replace existing cabins at the Fort Wilderness Campground, turning the resort into a Disney Vacation Club property. Work has not yet begun on this big change, but we anticipate that construction will begin in 2024.

It’s been said that the cabins will be constructed off-site and brought onto the property.  The current cabins are still available to book until late 2024, so if you’re hoping to stay in one of the existing options, you still can! If you’re booking towards the end of 2024, you’ll want to keep an eye out for more information about the new cabins.

Pool Refurbishments Are Happening at Two Resorts in 2024

There are just two pools scheduled to undergo refurbishment in 2024:

  • Fuentes del Morro Pool at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort (closed from January to April 2024)
  • Doubloon Lagoon Pool at Disney’s Port Orleans French Quarter (closed from January to April 2024)

More pool refurbishments may be announced later in 2024, so keep an eye out for any updates or messages from Walt Disney World as you book your 2024 visits to ensure your hotel’s pool will be open!
