Last year, Disney’s Grand Floridian debuted new resort studio rooms, along with updates to their Disney Vacation Club villas. We’re sharing a full tour of the new resort studio rooms available at the hotel.
Last year, Disney’s Grand Floridian debuted its updated Disney Vacation Club rooms, available at The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The opening was part of an expansion and enhancement at the hotel, which included the opening of 200 new resort studios and enhancements to the pre-existing deluxe studios, 1-, 2-, and 3-bedroom villas. As part of a media event, we were invited to stay in an updated resort-view studio room, and we’re taking you with us to explore all of the updates! Currently, most DVC buildings at Disney’s Grand Floridian are done with their updates, though some construction is still happening throughout this year. The new rooms take inspiration from Mary Poppins Returns, with plenty of subtle (and not-so-subtle) detailing throughout the accommodations. Not only are the rooms updated, but the theming has expanded into each of the outer building’s individual lobby area and hallways.
We stayed in the Boca Chica building, in a new resort studio updated with the new theming and details. Follow along with us as we take you through the full tour of the Grand Floridian’s updated rooms!
Mary Poppins Theming With Modern Details

While the theming may be different, the overall footprint of the room is the same as it was before. However, we found that the updated made better use of the space available, making the room feel like it had more space available to you. Similar to the updates we’ve seen at Citricos, one of the signature dining restaurants available at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, the updated rooms take inspiration from Mary Poppins Returns. However, along with the inspiration from the film, the rooms have modern touches of elegance and details.

Throughout the room, you’ll find pops of bright jewel tones and florals, with pops of gold detailing as well. Above the beds is a bright gold chandelier, which matches with the golden details of the lamp and other furniture you’ll find throughout the room. What makes the golden chandelier extra special are the details! On top sit several glass birds — look closely and you’ll spot a penguin among them!

That same coloring and detail can be found at the vanity, which features a plush teal seat. The same bright gold can be found on the legs of the chair, the desk, and even the large mirror. As a backdrop you have the watercolor floral landscape wallpaper with a few bird details inspired by Mary Poppins.

You’ll also find plenty of less-subtle nodes to Mary Poppins Returns all throughout the room. The bedside lampshade features Mary’s iconic umbrella blowing in the wind.

And in the built-in nook where you can make your coffee in the morning, you’ll notice wallpaper that features Mary, Jack, as well as the children: John, Annabel, and Georgie.Look closely for other fun details effortlessly woven in, including Mary’s umbrella, the penguins, and more.
Closet and Storage Options for the Grand Floridian Resort Studio Room

Next to the bed, you have your closet space, decorated with very on-theme wallpaper. The closet opens up behind two doors, one featuring shelving, and a small safe. The other has hanging space, as well as extra pillows and blankets, and a drying rack for guests to use. The closet also included robes to use, a detail we loved to see!

For a little bit of extra store, you also have a dresser underneath the television, as well as storage underneath the bed that you can use.

There’s also a built-in nook with a few more shelves you can use. This is also where you will find your coffee station, with a single-cup Keurig available to use. Open up teh drawer for everything you need to make a cup of coffee in the morning.
Updated Beds and Pull-Out Couch

The resort studios feature two queen beds and one pull-out bed, meaning they can sleep up to five people. The headboards for the queen beds feature the same teal color you’ll find throughout the room. The style is very Victorian, tying in inspiration from the original Grand Floridian rooms with the new, modern details.

In the corner by the balcony, you will find a blue couch that serves as a pull-out bed for a fifth person. Above the couch, you’ll also notice a familiar scene–the paintings feature Mary Poppins flying onto Cherry Tree Lane with her umbrella!
Updated Bathroom and Details

The updated theming continues in the bathroom, with lots of charming details and the same whimsical color scheme. The bathroom features a stunning light-up mirror with intricate detailing along the perimeter that fits in perfectly with the charming theme.

On the counter you’ll find a full assortment of H2O amenities, including shampoo, conditioner, mouth wash, body wash, vanity kit, shower cap, and soap.

While you will have access to individual toiletries, inside the walk-in show you will also find dispensers for H2O shampoo, conditioner, and body wash on the wall.

The walk-in shower features gold accents, with a marble-tiled floor and blue interior. The shower and toilet are separated from the rest of the bathroom, but there is not a separate door for entry.

We stayed in a pool-view room with a balcony overlooking the courtyard pool. The balcony is fairly spacious, with two white chairs available to sit in and enjoy the views of the hotel.

And just look at that view! If you’re looking for a place to take a moment and relax after a long day in the parks, sitting out on the balcony and taking in Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is a great way to do it.
Highlights of the Grand Floridian Resort Studio Rooms

Overall, the rooms provided a beautiful update to the previous studios at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. While the previous rooms were nice and comfy, the new theming of the Grand Floridian’s updated rooms adds polish and elegance. The subtle touches of Mary Poppins Returns never feel overwhelming, but instead give the room the feel of a artsy English garden. While upscale and luxurious, the rooms still maintain a level of casualness that makes you feel like you can simply relax on your vacation. The colors, theming, and detailing are exquisite, and we loved that the details continued out into the hallways and lobbies of the outer buildings.

The rooms themselves also make great use of space. While the size of the studio has been left unchanged, it now includes a great amount of storage space and feels more open than it did before. There was a lot of thought put into the details for maximizing space. For example, little ledges are available on the exterior side of the beds, with outlets and USB ports underneath so you can charge your electronics even if you aren’t sleeping by the bedside lamp. Storage space is also plentiful, with the closet, dresser, and underneath the bed available to use for guests in the room.
Overall, the Grand Floridian’s updated rooms provide a polished, elegant change to the popular Magic Kingdom Resort hotel. You can check out a full tour of one of the updated DVC studios below!
