Disney Destiny is a bold new heroes-and-villains ship with experiences no one else offers. With 3-, 4-, 5-, and 7-night sailings, choosing the right length isn’t obvious; the best choice might surprise you.
Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Destiny, is packed with exclusive experiences you won’t find anywhere else in the fleet. From brand-new themed lounges and interactive character encounters to an all-new rotational dining restaurant inspired by The Lion King, there’s a lot to fit into a single vacation. With 3-, 4-, 5-, and 7-night itineraries available, choosing the right sailing isn’t just about budget or destinations – it can completely change your onboard experience.
As Disney Cruise Line opened bookings for its 2026 and 2027 sailings this week, including voyages aboard the Disney Destiny following its maiden season, we’ve been thinking about which itinerary we’d choose. After previewing many of the ship’s biggest new offerings (from tasting dishes at Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King to touring the shipyard in Germany and learning more about its entertainment and character experiences) we’re convinced that five nights is the sweet spot for most guests.
Here’s why we’d choose a 5-night Disney Destiny cruise over a shorter sailing.
Why We Recommend a 5-Night Disney Destiny Cruise
- Experience the possibility of a second exclusive Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King menu.
- More time to explore unique lounges like De Vil’s, Haunted Mansion Parlor, The Sanctum, and Cask & Cannon.
- A better chance to discover Disney Destiny’s new interactive “meet-and-play” character experiences.
- Extra time to enjoy Broadway-style entertainment, deck activities, and everything the ship has to offer without feeling rushed.
- The ideal balance of value and onboard experiences for guests sailing primarily to enjoy Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship.
The Secret Menu You Can ONLY Enjoy During 5-Night (or Longer) Cruises
Most Disney cruisers agree that the food on the Wish-class ships is a cut above the rest of the fleet, but on the Disney Destiny, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to enjoy Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King.
If you like Tusker House, Boma, Jiko, Sanaa, or The Mara at Walt Disney World, a 5-night Destiny sailing is a must-do. If you’re a foodie looking for fresh new flavors or a seasoned cruiser growing tired of the standard main dining room menus on Disney Cruise Line’s fleet, this restaurant will be a game-changer.

Imagine dishes bursting with spices like turmeric, cumin, curry, garam masala, harissa, or dukkah. I had a sweet potato, lentil, coconut soup, and a coconut-tamarind red snapper that I cannot wait to eat again. Don’t get me started on the flavor-packed sides, either, like creamy gouda pap, jollof rice, or the warm and buttery malva pudding that capped off our meal.
But here’s the secret: Pride Lands offers two different African-inspired menus. However, the second is ONLY available on 5- or 7-night sailings. If you splurge on a 7-night itinerary, you’ll also enjoy a second meal at 1923 and Worlds of Marvel. But on a 5-night sailing, you’ll need to make some magic happen to score a seat.

On a 3-, 4-, or 5-night sailing, your main dining room rotation will include 1923 (Wish/Treasure night 1) menu, Worlds of Marvel (Wish/Treasure night 1 with the Marvel Celebration of Heroes: Groot Remix show), and Pride Lands night 1 with a lovely musical show akin to what you’d find at Plaza de Coco or Arendelle: A Frozen Dining Adventure. 4- and 5-night sailings will also include the fleet-wide Pirate Night menu.
But if you’re sailing on a 5-night cruise, that last night you’ll either get 1923’s night 2 Treasure menu, Worlds of Marvel night 2 Treasure menu (no show, however!), or the coveted Pride Lands night 2 menu. But since your dining rotation is luck of the draw, how do you ensure your seat a the table for night 2 at Pride Lands?
Here’s How to Taste Both of the Pride Lands Menus
As soon as you board, ask a Cast Member or head to Guest Services to find out where the dining request location is. They’ll direct you to a specific location where you can ask for your rotation to be changed if you didn’t get Pride Lands as your last night’s restaurant.
There’s no guarantee, but most times, they can make this work. (And this is the same procedure if you want to experience an extra night at one of the other two restaurants. 1923 is great for a “date night” vibe without Palo prices, and World of Marvel is key for any superhero fans – and the Destiny will draw a lot of those!

Beyond the main dining rooms, the stellar line-up of lounges like De Vil’s, Haunted Mansion Parlor, The Sanctum, and Cask & Cannon will require a significant time investment from foodies who want to sample all the fantastical cocktails and nibbles on offer. These bars all have unique menus, different fro each other and the other ships, so it’s a whole new world of beverages to try, if that’s your thing.

The Disney Destiny’s Interactive Character Experiences Reward Longer Sailings
One of the Disney Destiny‘s most unique offerings isn’t a restaurant or a stage show—it’s the ship’s interactive “meet-and-play” character experiences. Unlike traditional character meet-and-greets, these encounters invite guests to become part of the story, whether that’s helping Loki with one of his schemes or crossing paths with Cruella De Vil in an unexpectedly fashionable setting.

The fun is that these experiences aren’t always obvious when you’re planning your day. While they appear in the Disney Cruise Line Navigator app, many are listed under creative event names rather than “interactive character experience.” Others may simply unfold as you’re exploring the ship, making them feel like magical surprises rather than scheduled entertainment.
The Disney Destiny‘s heroes-and-villains theme shines through these encounters. Characters including Loki, Cruella De Vil, Maleficent, Dr. Facilier, Captain Jack Sparrow, and heroic favorites like Black Panther appear throughout the sailing in ways that go beyond a quick photo and autograph. Instead, guests may be invited to solve a problem, take part in a challenge, or simply enjoy a memorable interaction that feels unique to that voyage.

It’s also one of the best reasons to choose a longer sailing. With more than a dozen different interactive experiences taking place throughout a voyage, you simply have more opportunities to stumble upon unexpected moments over five nights than you would on a shorter itinerary. Combined with the lounges, entertainment, and rotational dining, these encounters make it much easier to appreciate everything Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship has to offer.
Could you spend seven nights aboard the Disney Destiny instead? Absolutely—and if your schedule and budget allow, it’s a fantastic choice. But for most guests, I still think five nights is the sweet spot. It’s enough time to experience the ship’s exclusive dining, themed lounges, entertainment, and interactive character moments without feeling rushed. If you’re a Disney Villains fan, it’s also the perfect excuse to pair your cruise with a few days at Walt Disney World, where Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After is now entertaining guests—and, before long, Villains Land will make that land-and-sea vacation even more irresistible.
Why We Think Five Nights Is the Sweet Spot
After previewing many of the Disney Destiny’s newest experiences, we think a 5-night sailing offers the best balance of time, value, and exclusive onboard offerings. It gives you the opportunity to experience more of the ship’s unique dining, spend time in its beautifully themed lounges, and take advantage of entertainment and character interactions that simply aren’t possible to fit into a shorter cruise.
Could you sail for seven nights instead? Absolutely – and if your schedule and budget allow, we certainly wouldn’t discourage it. But for most guests, five nights strikes the perfect balance. You’ll have enough time to enjoy what makes Disney Cruise Line’s newest heroes-and-villains-inspired ship so special without stretching your vacation or your budget quite as far.
Frequently Asked Questions About Disney Destiny 5-Night Cruises
Is a 5-night Disney Destiny cruise worth it?
If your main goal is experiencing everything new aboard Disney Destiny, we think so. A 5-night sailing gives you more opportunities to enjoy the ship’s exclusive restaurants, themed lounges, entertainment, and interactive character experiences than a shorter itinerary.
What’s different about a 5-night Disney Destiny sailing?
The biggest difference is the rotational dining schedule. Guests on select 5-night (and longer) sailings may have the opportunity to experience a second menu at Pride Lands: Feast of the Lion King, along with additional visits to the ship’s other rotational restaurants. You’ll also have more time to explore the ship without feeling rushed.
Can I request a different dining rotation?
Yes. Once you board, visit Guest Services or the designated Dining Changes location to request a different rotational dining schedule. While requests can’t be guaranteed, Disney Cruise Line Cast Members are often able to accommodate them if space is available.
Is a 3- or 4-night Disney Destiny cruise still worth booking?
Absolutely. You’ll still experience the ship’s signature entertainment, themed spaces, and one visit to each rotational dining restaurant. However, if you’re sailing specifically to experience everything unique about Disney Destiny, we think a 5-night itinerary offers the best overall value and a more relaxed pace.
