Is a Fantasmic! Dining Package Worth the Money?

by | Mar 4, 2024 | Disney's Hollywood Studios, WDW Blog

Want to get a guaranteed seat to see Fantasmic without having to join a queue really early? Walt Disney World offers a Fantasmic! Dining Package –– and we’re breaking down whether it’s worth purchasing.

Fantasmic! is one of Disney World’s beloved nighttime shows. Every night, guests flock to the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater in the shadow of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror to see Mickey Mouse defeat the villains that haunt his dreams. While the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater is huge and offers an array of seating, if you’re looking for a front and center view of the show, you’ll need to book a Fantasmic! dining package.

But is the Fantasmic! dining package actually worth the money? We’re here to help you decide if you should consider buying this upgraded dining experience.

What is the Fantasmic! Dining Package?

At Disney World, you can upgrade your show experience by purchasing a Fantasmic! Dining Package, which allows guests to enjoy a meal at one of five select restaurants in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. After your meal, you’ll get VIP seating at one showing of Fantasmic!.

This dining package includes an entree and an appetizer or dessert at a table service restaurant or a buffet, along with a non-alcoholic beverage. Guests who purchase the package will then receive one voucher for guaranteed seating at Fantasmic!.

Participating Restaurants and Costs

The restaurants and prices for the Fantasmic! Dining Package are:

  • 50’s Prime Time Cafe: $54 for adults, $23 for kids (age 9 and under)
  • Hollywood & Vine: $59 for adults (breakfast), $39 for kids (age 9 and under); $75 for adults (dinner), $49 for kids (age 9 and under)
  • Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano: $56 for adults, $23 for kids (age 9 and under)
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater Restaurant: $51 for adults, $23 for kids (age 9 and under)
  • The Hollywood Brown Derby: $77 for adults, $31 for kids (age 9 and under)

These packages do not include alcoholic beverages, and they do not include any park admission. Those costs are additional on top of the price of a dinner package.

Scheduling and Check-In

Fantasmic! is shown once an evening at 9:30 PM at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater. As a dining package guest, you are given a voucher that allows you guaranteed VIP seating at the show. Check-in for guests is next to Beauty & the Beast Live on Stage. Seating does begin 90 minutes prior to the start of the show. Guests with dining packages are asked to arrive at the theater 25 minutes before showtime.

What Are the Benefits of Purchasing a Fantasmic! Dining Package?

Front Row Seating

With the Fantasmic! dining package, you get priority seating for the show itself. This seating is in the four or so middle sections of the theater, placing you front and center. These rows are blocked off for guests to enjoy the show with the use of this package. Keep in mind, if you want a front row view, you do run the risk of getting wet from the lagoon. But, just think, these are some pretty great seats to view Mickey and his friends.

Save Time and Skip the Wait

The dining package means you have a guaranteed seat to the show. Which means, you can spend more time out in the park riding rides and seeing attractions before having to head to the theater. Most guests who do standby for Fantasmic! know that you have to get in line pretty early to get great seats –– or even get into the theater. That’s the benefit of a dining package: not having to wait around.

Enjoy a Full Dinner

Since it’s called a dining package, you are paying for your dinner! All of the restaurants included in the plan offer guests either an appetizer or dessert and entree or a full buffet. That means for the price you pay, you’re able to enjoy a delicious, leisurely meal and then receive your voucher for the show. Guests love the benefit of having a full meal included in the price they are paying.

What Are the Cons of Purchasing a Fantasmic! Dining Package?

Price

If we had to pick the biggest drawback about the Fantasmic! Dining Package, it would be the price. Since this is a dining package, the price is more expensive than a regular meal at the participating restaurants.

Let’s take one restaurant for example: Hollywood and Vine. At Hollywood and Vine, which is a character buffet at Hollywood Studios, adults would normally pay $63 for their meal. When purchasing a dining package, you’re paying $75 for that same meal. That’s an extra cost of $12 per adult.

If you’re dining and purchasing the Fantasmic! package for a group of three or four adults, that’s an extra $50 on dinner for the dining package. While you are getting a reserved seat, we noticed on our recent trip that there were lots of seats available with just a little bit of time left before the show. This is something that you’ll have to decide if you’re willing to pay an extra cost for.

No Discounts Are Applicable

If you have discounts at Disney World, such as Annual Passholder, Disney Vacation Club, or Disney Visa Cardmember perks and savings, you know how important those discounts are when visiting. Unfortunately, you cannot use any discounts on a dining package meal –– meaning you will be paying full price at these restaurants.

Conclusion: Is it Worth It?

So, is it worth it to pay for the Fantasmic! Dining Package? While we think the seats are great, the reduced wait time (and lack of stress) is great, and the meal is also awesome, it’s important to look at your budget to see if this type of experience is worth it for you and your family.

For a few specific types of guests, we also think the dining package can be a worthwhile buy. For example, if it’s your first time seeing Fantasmic! or you have small children who you know will love it, it’s something you should consider splurging on. But, if you’ve seen the show before or are on a budget, then maybe you should skip this, since the cost is quite high.
