by | Dec 19, 2023 | International Parks, Shanghai Disney Resort, Shanghai Disneyland

After a long wait, the newest addition to Shanghai Disneyland – a land themed around Zootopia – is finally ready to open.

Are you ready to experience the world’s first-ever land featuring the characters and world of Zootopia? This popular film is coming to life at Shanghai Disneyland, and guests will finally be able to step right into Zootopia itself starting today!

December 20, 2023 marks opening day for Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland, and the celebrations are already underway. Shanghai Disney Resort marked the special occasion with a spectacular ceremony on December 19, with Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, and executives from both Shanghai Disney Resort and Shanghai Shendi Group – and key members of Zootopia like Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde, of course!

Other special guests at the commemorative grand opening ceremony included Jared Bush, co-writer and co-director of Zootopia (who’s already writing and directing the next installment in the Zootopia franchise). The group of invited guests gathered inside the new land at Shanghai Disneyland, celebrating the fully immersive new land and its unique blend of storytelling and technology.

Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland is truly special, as it’s an area of the theme park that will transport guests into a living, breathing mammalian metropolis. Cast Members, Imagineers, and artists from Walt Disney Animation worked together to build this dynamic city that’s immersive at every turn – and full of groundbreaking, state-of-the-art technology that brings Disney’s signature storytelling to life in new ways.

“For 100 years, The Walt Disney Company has been entertaining, thrilling, and inspiring audiences and fans through exceptional storytelling that transcends generations and geographies,” said Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company. “Our popular Zootopia film continues to delight fans across the globe, especially in China, and we’re excited to give guests at Shanghai Disney Resort the chance to interact with the stories and characters they love in innovative new ways when they visit this spectacular new land.”

Now that Zootopia at Shanghai Disneyland’s opening day has finally arrived, guests will be able to explore the one-of-a-kind experiences and attractions inside the land, including:

  • Zootopia: Hot Pursuit, an all-new attraction featuring a trackless ride system that takes guests on a wild, action-filled chase through Zootopia
  • Zootopia Park Apartments, a building featuring a lineup of animal residents who interact with each other and guests throughout the day for a unique atmosphere show
  • Fashions by Fru Fru, a merchandise store owned by Zootopia’s most fashionable resident, Fru Fru
  • Jumbeaux’s Cafe, a treat shop that features snacks like Chocolate Marshmallows and The Big Donut (Officer Clawhauser’s favorite!)
  • Zootopia Market, where the iconic frozen paw-shaped Disney Zootopia Pawsicle from the film can be found
