The thrilling Disney100 celebration kicks off in the new year with a brand-new show that’ll light up the park with sights, sounds, and fresh excitement.
Are you ready for all of the special events and experiences the Walt Disney Company has planned for 2023? It’s a big year – not only because it’s a fresh new year, but also because of all the surprises in store for the Disney100 celebration. And it’s all kicking off with Wondrous Journeys, a brand-new nighttime spectacular, which will premiere at the Disneyland Resort as part of the celebration.
While the Disney100 festivities will take place at resorts and important Disney destinations worldwide, the heart of the party will be at Disneyland. Wondrous Journeys is the first of these special limited-time events that’ll get the yearlong party started.
What is Wondrous Journeys?
Created by Disney Live Entertainment, Wondrous Journeys is a new nighttime spectacular that will celebrate 100 years of Walt Disney Animation Studios. The immersive experience is designed to ignite the dreamer in all of us as it lights up Main Street, U.S.A. and Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Wondrous Journeys will spotlight Disney animated classics, featuring music, characters, and special moments from fan favorites like Encanto, Hercules, The Princess and the Frog, Peter Pan, Frozen, Treasure Planet, Big Hero 6, Moana, and more.
A New Spectacular with New Original Music
At the heart of this spectacular show will be an original new song, “It’s Wondrous,” which will become a fast favorite that captures Guests’ hearts. You can catch a behind-the-scenes peek at the recording session for the song from Disney Parks’ YouTube below.
Catch State-of-the-Art Project Across Iconic Disneyland Spots
In addition to the new original song, Wondrous Journeys will also bring the beloved scenes of Disney Animation to life using artistry, music, and storytelling. Spanning one hundred years of history, the nighttime spectacular will utilize state-of-the-art projection effects to immerse you in the animation process.
Projections of blank pieces of paper, pencil sketches, and splashes of color will breathe life into characters like Mickey Mouse, Bambi, Ariel, and Mirabel. You’ll want to keep an eye out for special lighting effects and more, especially if you’re watching along Main Street, U.S.A., near “it’s a small world,” or along the Rivers of America. Each one of these spots will transform into an artist’s canvas for the show, bringing stories of possibilities, heartache, and determination to life all around you.
And don’t forget to keep an eye on Sleeping Beauty Castle! Baymax will take on a heroic role as he soars above the castle to fight for your dreams.
Of course, no nighttime spectacular would be complete without fireworks. On select nights, Wondrous Journeys will become bigger and grander with the addition of fireworks in the skies above Disneyland.
