From glaciers to snow-capped mountains to incredible wildlife, we’re sharing the top reasons to take a Disney Cruise Line vacation in Alaska.
When you think of a cruise, you typically think of warm, tropical destinations – like Bermuda, the Bahamas, and Mexico – but there’s one type of cruise that’s the polar (no pun intended) opposite from these beaches: Alaska. With a wholly opposite experience, from cooler weather to more adventurous excursion options, cruising through the waters around Alaska is a unique experience. And seeing Alaska from aboard a Disney Cruise Line ship makes it even more magical!
Disney Cruise Line’s Alaska itinerary runs for select months aboard the Disney Wonder. This itinerary should be on everyone’s bucket list. Below, find out why it’s such a fantastic cruise to consider.
Disney’s Alaska Cruises Visit More Ports of Call

I just got back from my 9-night Alaskan cruise with Disney Cruise Line, and I was able to see so many different cities in the state. Out of all nine nights, we only had two days at sea – meaning we saw six different locations around Alaska.
The amount of different ports the Disney Wonder stops at around Alaska is incredible, and it allows you to see and do so much within the state. Additionally, rather than only spending a few hours in one country or city before leaving and heading out to a different part of the world, you’ll have almost a full day to explore each destination. During most port days, the ship stays docked for eight to 10 hours, which give Guests just enough time to see the must-dos of each port city before moving onto the next.
The Alaska Excursions Are Thrilling
Have you ever wanted to go dog sledding? How about zip lining through the Alaskan mountains? Or maybe you’ve always wanted to see humpback whales up close. Disney Cruise Line’s Alaskan cruise offers some of the most unique and highly sought after shore excursions around the world. They’re adventurous, offer incredible views and experiences, and will thrill any Guest!
For example, while I was in Skagway, I was able to ride the historic White Pass Scenic Railway, which took us through the White Pass Summit. Let me tell you: The views we were able to see while aboard the railway were absolutely breathtaking! Disney Cruise Line’s Alaska cruises are filled with excursions just like this one, allowing for once-in-a-life time experiences.
But even if you don’t have an excursion booked, while you’re sailing aboard the Disney Wonder you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled. If you’re on the top deck looking out at the ocean, you may be able to see a humpback whale or otters swimming around. More than likely, you’ll also get to see salmon jumping in and out of the water all around the cruise ship, especially on the days you are in port.
You’ll See Alaska’s Hubbard Glacier (and It’s Incredible!)
One of the stops along the Disney Cruise Line Alaska itinerary is the Hubbard Glacier. Being able to see this gigantic glacier up close and personal is absolutely breathtaking. Standing at more than six miles wide where it meets the ocean, the views of the Hubbard Glacier are immaculate. Best of all, you don’t even have to leave the ship! Being able to see the glacier from the comfort of your own verandah, or from the top deck of the Disney Wonder, is like nothing else.
The Views from the Ship Are Amazing

If you’ve only ever been on a Caribbean cruise, I bet you’re used to seeing nothing but the open ocean as your ship sails from port to port. Well, on an Alaskan cruise, there will be views amongst views every single day you set sail. From gorgeous mountain tops to secluded islands and forests, the views you’ll see on your Disney cruise will be ones that feel right out of a painting.
During each Alaska cruise, the Disney Wonder will sail through the Inside Passage, which means your cruise ship is surrounded by tall mountains on both sides of the ship, making for absolutely breathtaking views and photos. These are views you truly can’t find anywhere else – meaning this is a vacation that’s bucket list worthy!
