What to Know Before You Ride TRON Lightcycle / Run

by | Jan 27, 2023 | Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World News, WDW Blog

Before you board this attraction for the very first time and enter the Grid, you’ll want to note these top tips.

There’s really no other ride like TRON Lightcycle / Run – at least not within Walt Disney World! This highly-anticipated attraction has been years in the making, and when you climb aboard one of the iconic Lightcycle vehicles, you’ll be in for quite the thrill. But, because TRON Lightcycle / Run is so different from the other types of coasters found in Walt Disney World, this new addition to the Magic Kingdom will feature some unique differences.

So, what should you expect? Here’s what you need to know about the attraction before it opens on April 4, 2023.

TRON Lightcycle / Run Will Use a Virtual Queue

Virtual queues are becoming increasingly popular at Walt Disney World theme parks and other Disney parks worldwide. When a new attraction opens, a virtual queue is offered instead of the traditional standby queue to free up Guests’ time and offer more flexibility.

And when TRON Lightcycle / Run first opens, it’ll use a virtual queue only. There will be no standby queue available.

So, if you’re hoping to enter the Grid and join Team Blue, you’ll need to open the My Disney Experience app and request to join the virtual queue. Guests will need a valid ticket or pass, plus a theme park reservation for Magic Kingdom park, on the date they’d like to join the virtual queue in order to get access.

Individual Lightning Lane Entry Will Be Available

Don’t want to risk missing out on TRON Lightcycle / Run because of the virtual queue? There is another way to ride: purchase an individual Lightning Lane entry.

Individual Lightning Lane Entry will be available in the My Disney Experience app. If you have a valid admission and a park reservation for Magic Kingdom Park, you’ll be able to use the Disney Genie service to choose an arrival window and purchase an Individual Lightning Lane Entry for this attraction.

Remember, pricing and availability for Individual Lightning Lane changes, and it can increase day to day depending on demand. Because TRON Lightcycle / Run will be hugely popular, you can expect the cost of this Lightning Lane entry to be one of the highest.

Guest Will Stash Their Gear Inside a New Locker System

One big change that you’ll notice in the queue for TRON Lightcycle / Run is a brand-new digitized locker system. This change was an expected one, due to the speed and thrilling twists and turns of the coaster, but it is a bit different from the process of boarding any other attraction.

Before you climb onto your Lightcycle, you’ll use a double-sided locker system to store bags, phones, and any other loose items you might be carrying. Located inside the attraction queue, the lockers are complimentary, and they pair with either your MagicBand, MagicBand+, or park ticket media. You’ll be able to stash your stuff and lock (and later unlock) your locker with the tap of your MagicBand.

Don’t have a MagicBand or MagicBand+? A Cast Member will provide you with a card that’s assigned just to your locker.

There is a small space to store items on the Lightcycle vehicle, but that compartment is designed for very small items like phones, glasses, or wallets.

TRON Lightcycle / Run Does Include a Disney PhotoPass Photo

Lastly, you’ll want to make sure you make a great face while you’re inside the Grid – you will have your photo taken! TRON Lightcycle / Run offers both onboard photo and video, meaning you’ll be able to have the entire experience captured.

If you’d like to relive your race against Team Orange, you can download your onboard photo and video through the My Disney Experience app. To capture the media, you’ll want to make sure you’re logged into the app (or have at least logged in once earlier in the day) and bring it on board your Lightcycle with you. You’ll stash it in the small onboard compartment as you race.

Or, your MagicBand or MagicBand+ will do the work for you! As long as your MagicBand is linked to your My Disney Experience account, you can log in later and choose to download your ride photo or video.
