What to do at Pixar Pier in Disney’s California Adventure

by | Sep 9, 2021 | Disneyland, WDW Blog

Let’s take a look at what to do at Pixar Pier during your next trip at Disney’s California Adventure at Disneyland Resort.

As you make your way through the turnstiles of Disney’s California Adventure Park, you’re immediately transported to a different era. The time period you’ve embarked upon is the 1920s.

Traveling down Buena Vista Street, you are experiencing California the way Walt did when he first arrived in Hollywood. Although there are numerous unique and enjoyable offerings at DCA, a trip to this park would not be complete without a visit to Pixar Pier.

Not only is it home to the fastest, and possibly most popular, ride in the park—the Incredicoaster—its landscape, music, and theming provide the perfect image of what California Adventure is all about. A nostalgic blast from the past, I would venture to say that Pixar Pier is the heart of DCA.

Getting to Pixar Pier

Before you arrive at this sublime section of the park, you will pass by the exciting NEW Avengers Campus, the always delightful Cars Land, and the Pacific Wharf, where you can pick up something tasty to eat. As you turn the corner approaching the entrance, the bright colors, scenic waterfront, and upbeat vibe will undoubtedly draw you in.

The first thing you’ll notice is a huge sign, not unlike the famous one in Las Vegas, welcoming you to the boardwalk. Once you cross over the threshold, entering into the pier, a variety of food, shopping, and ride options are just waiting for you to enjoy.

Food: Where To Eat at Pixar Pier

The most talked about food item at California Adventure Park is undeniably the lobster nachos at Lamplight Lounge. Although the lounge is the only Table-Service restaurant on the pier, it offers both indoor and outdoor eating options, the latter of which offers stunning views of the waterfront.

In addition to the restaurant, there are several savory and sweet Quick-Service stands located throughout the pier.

Savory options include Disney’s famous turkey legs, as well as chicken, hot dogs, and chimichangas. For snacks, check out Popcorn at Pixar Pier, where you can not only enjoy the best kernels you’ve ever had, but also purchase one of those coveted souvenir popcorn buckets.

If you’re in the mood for something sweet, check out Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats, where you can find a variety of delicious and inventive soft-serve options that I can guarantee you’ve never tried before. Or, if you feel like a classic Disney snack, head over to Senor Buzz Churros.

Shopping at Pixar Pier: Attention Collectors

Shopping is one of my favorite pastimes at Disneyland Resort, and let me tell you, the options at Pixar Pier do not disappoint. Head over to Knick’s Knacks, where you can find specialized Pixar merch, as well as view some incredible concept art—one of my personal faves.

For souvenirs, check out Midway Mercantile for Toy Story-themed toys and accessories. Toward the end of the pier, Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff sells apparel and food items. This store also has a penny press, which is a fun and affordable way to bring home a Disney Parks collectible.

Pro Tip: Penny press machines are located throughout Disneyland Resort. Check out the Disneyland app for location info.

Rides and Attractions at Pixar Pier: Game On

There are some amazing, must-experience rides and attractions located within Pixar Pier. Along with the Incredicoaster, the Ferris wheel is another favorite among guests.

The Pixar Pal-A-Round offers two unique riding experiences. For those who want a milder, more traditional trip around the wheel, there is the Non-Swinging option. As for those feeling a little more adventurous, there is also a Swinging option, which rocks from side to side as you’re going ‘round.

Toy Story Midway Mania is another fan favorite, and although this sometimes makes for longer lines, it is definitely worth the wait. (This ride is especially fun for the littles.)

Strap on your glasses and hop aboard this immersive 4D experience, where you’ll have a chance to play games and take aim at moving objects in a friendly competition against other guests.

There are a few smaller rides at Pixar Pier, all worth visiting. There is also a section on the boardwalk where you can play carnival style games and win prizes.

World of Color at Pixar Pier

And last, but definitely not least, there’s World of Color.

World of Color is Disney’s famous nighttime spectacular at California Adventure. Located on the waterfront of Pixar Pier, treat yourself to an amazing showing of some of Disney’s and Pixar’s most beloved stories, played on a screen made of mist. (The music is amazing too.)

Pixar Pier comes to life at night, so make sure you make time to enjoy this beautiful area after the sun sets.

As you can see, a trip to DCA would not be complete without a visit to Pixar Pier. Strolling along the boardwalk, you are enveloped by the vintage vibes of a bygone era.

The food and shopping options, as well as the rides and attractions, make for a fun-filled day at the park. But don’t take my word for it.

Get out there and experience it for yourself. I promise, you will not be disappointed
