The Happiest Place on Turf: What It’s Like to Golf at Walt Disney World

by | Apr 15, 2024 | Walt Disney World Entertainment, WDW Blog

Playing golf at Walt Disney World is just as magical as you might imagine! We’re sharing a look into the experience after playing a few rounds firsthand on the resort’s greens.

Did you know that Walt Disney World is home to not one, not two, not three, but a whopping four PGA tour golf courses? Disneyland may be the happiest place on earth but with so many top caliber courses to choose from, Walt Disney World is surely the happiest place on turf. Here’s our complete guide to golfing at Walt Disney World.

During a recent trip to Florida my wife and I were invited to come hit the links and see what makes golfing at WDW so special. I’ve played my share of mini golf, including many enjoyable rounds at Disney’s own whimsical mini-golf courses (a separate experience from the traditional golf we’re talking about today), but this visit was my first time on a genuine, world-class PGA Tour course.

There are four courses on Disney property you can book a tee time at. Golfers can choose from:

Disney’s Palm Golf Course

Par: 72 | Yardage: 6,870 | Rating 73.7 | Slope 131

This 18-hole course features majestic palm trees, sparkling water features, and 59 bunkers for engaging play.

Disney’s Lake Buena Vista Golf Course

Par: 72 | Yardage: 6,745 | Rating: 72.3 | Slope 133

Located closer to the Disney Springs area, this course has sweeping vistas, and lush greenery. Refurbished in 2018 this course is a challenging and beautiful addition to Disney’s offerings.

Disney’s Magnolia Golf Course

Par: 72 | Yardage: 7,516 | Rating: 76 | Slope 141

The longest and most recently refurbished course on Disney property. Disney fans will love the iconic Mickey-shaped sand bunker. This course is also Audubon certified as a cooperative wildlife sanctuary.

Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course

9 Hole Walking Course | Par: 36 | Yardage: 2,913

The perfect course to begin your golf journey and a great course for the whole family. Early morning or early evening special rates are available on this course. Visit golfwdw.com for more details

Let Disney Handle the Details: Lessons, Clinics, and More

Disney Golf, operated by Arnold Palmer Golf Management, wants to make golfing as easy and accessible as possible for the whole family. Unlike many private courses and golf Clubs, the courses at Disney are open to players of all ages provided they can keep up with the pace of the game.

If you’re a novice golfer or looking to tune up your swing there are drop-in and scheduled golf clinics with professional PGA instructors. With 45-minute lessons, half and full-day clinics as well as one-on-one and group instruction it’s never been easier to get expert help with your game. Rates can be as low as $25 for top-notch instruction. Our instructor took my wife and I from complete novices to budding golfers in the first lesson with insightful guidance and expert knowledge.

No need to pack your clubs, Disney’s got TaylorMade golf clubs, and Adidas golf shoes available to rent in Men’s, Women’s and Junior models. If you’re looking for some golf apparel to call your own then a visit to the pro shop is a must. You’ll find exclusive, Disney/Golf themed merchandise and apparel not sold elsewhere.

Get warmed up and ready to play, your greens fees include complimentary pre-round range ball so you can get in the zone before you hit the links.

Looking to practice your short game? Make sure to visit The Greatest Green Ever Played, an 18-hole putting course on real turf. Located behind the pro shop, this putting green is free to play provided you have your putter and golf balls. Golfers do not need a reservation or other tee time to access the putting greens.

Disney plusses the golf experience even further with complimentary transportation to and from your resort hotel. As long as you are a guest staying at a Walt Disney World owned resort hotel and have reserved a tee time you will enjoy complimentary taxi rides to and from your resort. Golfers should speak to the front desk or call 407-WDW-GOLF (407-939-4653) to arrange transportation.

Footgolf at Oak Trail Golf Course, Walt Disney World

If traditional golf isn’t your game, or if you’re looking for a more approachable way to get the whole family involved you can opt for a round of FootGolf at Disney’s Oak Trail Course. If you’re not in the know, Footgolf is one of the fastest growing sports in America, and perfect for the whole family. Combining traditional golf and soccer, players tee off (kick off) from the same tee box on the golf course only this time you’re kicking a soccer ball down the course to a 21” diameter cup (the same relative size as the traditional golf cup is to a standard golf ball).

Footgolf is played on the same Oak Trail course but not at the same time as traditional golf. Check golfwdw.com for the most up-to-date schedule. A round of Footgolf takes approximately 1.5 hrs and, if you have the water park and sports option on your park ticket, is completely FREE. For guests who don’t have this ticket option, rates start at $25

Arnold Palmer Golf Management and Disney Golf have done a remarkable job of making world-class golf as accessible and easy as possible. Disney world has a rich golfing tradition and it’s plain to see that the staff are passionate about the game and making golf a memorable part of your next Disney experience.

Thank you to Disney for inviting us to the Disney Youth Sports & Great Outdoors Media Event where we were able to experience amenities and recreation activities around Walt Disney World Resort, including a tour of the facilities at the Palm Golf Course, a golf clinic with a pro at the driving range, and a round of on the putting green.
