Watch The Liberty Belle Get Towed By Hand Back To Magic Kingdom

by | Feb 5, 2021 | Magic Kingdom, Walt Disney World News, WDW Blog

The Liberty Belle is back at Magic Kingdom after a lengthy refurbishment and it took multiple Cast Members to put the riverboat back in place.

Not only has the Liberty Belle been missing in action, but so has the Rivers of America water that’s usually flowing in Liberty Square at Magic Kingdom.

Well, after a four-month scheduled refurbishment, both the water and the Liberty Belle are back in action and thanks to a massive team of Cast Members and contractors.

On Friday, Feb. 5, Disney Parks Blog shared a video showing exactly what it takes to place the Liberty Belle back on the Rivers of America.

It Was No Easy Feat

Before going back home, the Liberty Belle was transported behind Magic Kingdom for dry dock maintenance while crew members worked on replacing the track located under the Rivers of America.

FYI: If you didn’t know, the riverboat glides along a track.

Once all of the maintenance was complete, it was time to bring the Liberty Belle back to Liberty Square. Rather than propelling herself with her paddlewheel, she had to be towed by hand for 2.5 miles.

The journey involved towing her behind Disney’s Contemporary Resort and then crossing a water bridge connecting Bay Lake to Seven Seas Lagoon.

After towing her by and through a narrow water channel, underwater divers reconnected the Liberty Belle to the refurbished track and then she was finally brought back home. Finishing touches were also made prior to park opening on Feb. 5.

As you can see in the video, it certainly takes a lot of time, skill, and patience when it comes to moving the Liberty Belle.

So much so, it took 15 different teams of Cast Members and contractors worked together to complete the three-night repositioning of the Liberty Belle back into the park.

Rivers Of America

While also working on the Rivers of America, Cast Members updated rockwork, landscaping, and added fresh paint to surrounding areas.

This video shows a time-lapse of the river being prepped to welcome home the Liberty Belle, which was last sent to dry dock in 2018.

I’d say the hard and extensive work paid off. How about you?
