Universe of Energy Easter Eggs You Can Find on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT

Did you know you can find Universe of Energy Easter Eggs on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind? These are the ones to look out for on your next ride!

From Hidden Mickeys to Easter Eggs, Disney loves to hide details throughout the parks for fans to find. One example of this is over in EPCOT, where you can find nods to the park’s incredible past. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind opened in 2022 in the old home of Ellen’s Energy Adventure, which closed in 2017. The ride had been an update to Universe of Energy, an EPCOT opening day attraction that explored the world of energy through both film and a dark ride. While the ride is now closed, the building’s new occupant pays tribute to it with tons of Easter Eggs and details. We’re sharing a guide to a few of our favorite Universe of Energy Easter Eggs you can find on Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind in EPCOT.

Universe of Energy Easter Eggs on Cosmic Rewind

The Universe of Energy Theme Song

Listen closely, and you’ll be able to hear a guitar riff of the classic Universe of Energy theme song — Guardians style!

Towards the start of the ride, when the Guardians ride in on their ship to stop Eson, you can hear the group listening to a guitar version of the iconic Universe of Energy theme. This happens just a few moments before the reverse launch that the ride has become so well known for.

Energy Dinosaurs

Part of the plot of the ride is that Peter Quill visited EPCOT during his childhood — in the 1980s. This means that he isn’t quite up to date on exactly what rides and attractions are available at the park a few decades later.

@tatjana.land someone is gonna be disappointed when he gets to EPCOT and realizes his favs are all extinct. 🫢 #starlord #guardiansofthegalaxy #guardiansofthegalaxycosmicrewind #epcot #disneytiktok #epcotcenter ♬ original sound – Tatjana

In the queue, there’s a segment where Quill is being interviewed, and you’ll hear him speak about several now-defunct EPCOT attractions. He says, “I love [EPCOT], it’s awesome! I went there as a kid and I cannot wait to go back and ride Horizons, see the energy dinosaurs, and hear the Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit.”

Of course, the energy dinosaurs refer to Universe of Energy, which had dinosaur animatronics. Veggie Veggie Fruit Fruit refers to another now defunct EPCOT attraction, Kitchen Kabaret. The stage show was replaced by Food Rocks, and later closed for the construction of Soarin’ in the early 2000s.

The Big Bang and the Ding Dang

Another Universe of Energy Easter egg is a reference to the Big Bang. In the pre-show, the leader of Nova Corps, Nova Prime Irani Rael, shares that Xandar and Earth were born in the same moment in time: the Big Bang.

In Ellen’s Energy Adventure, an update to Universe of Energy, Ellen DeGeneres learned that the universe began with the Big Bang as part of the pre-show. The references don’t stop there, though. During Ellen’s Energy Adventure, she referred to the Big Bang as the “Ding Dang.” This is referenced by Drax as part of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind when during the reverse launch, you hear him ask, “Was that the Ding Dang?”

Universe of Energy Logo and Symbols

Throughout Cosmic Rewind, you’ll also see logos and symbols that reference the old Universe of Energy logo. The old logo featured several circles of different widths, and throughout Cosmic Rewind, you can see symbols that look very similar.

Disney confirmed in a TikTok video that this was intentional, sharing a few that you can look out for.
