by | Mar 14, 2023 | Magic Kingdom, WDW Blog

Get ready to enter the Grid! TRON Lightcycle / Run will be making its official debut on April 4, 2023, but ahead of its opening, we got a special preview of the ride as part of the AlltheDisneyThrills Media Event. During our preview of the ride, we were also able to grab our first look at the on-ride photo and video that you can get while riding TRON Lightcycle / Run! We’re sharing what you can expect from the innovative on-ride photo and video, along with the special photo opportunities you can unlock through the My Disney Experience app.

As part of the exciting ride, you have the opportunity to preview an on-ride photo and video that will automatically link to you My Disney Experience account. To ensure that you will have access, you will want to make sure you use one of the following methods prior to boarding:

  • Enable Bluetooth for the My Disney Experience app before riding, and make sure you have logged into the app prior to going on TRON Lightcycle /Run. You’ll also want to make sure your mobile device boards the ride with you for this method and is stored in the small Lightcycle compartment.
  • Alternatively, you can wear a MagicBand or MagicBand+ that’s linked to your My Disney Experience account.

So, what are the options that will appear after riding? We spoke with Jeff Harmon, Manager of Marketing, Sales, and Social Media for Disney PhotoPass, about the exciting new offerings created just for TRON Lightcycle / Run, who shared, “This is our 15th attraction capture at Walt Disney World. [We’re] super excited to be in on this brand-new attraction… we’ve really upped our game and continued embracing the technology that we’ve been working on so hard over the last several years.”

One of our favorite features of the new TRON Lightcycle / Run on-ride photo experience is the fact that photos are automatically captured from both angles. This means you won’t have to compete over which side has the better shot! You’ll be able to capture both riders and the experience from each’s perspective. As Harmon explains, “New technology has allowed us to isolate the car, isolate the Guests in the car, and then turn those cars to be at the exact same angle for every shot.”

And when it comes to on-ride video, you won’t want to skip the opportunity to turn your experience into one seriously awesome moving image. The on-ride photo and video capability for TRON Lightcycle / Run allows you to capture the sounds and motion of the ride – but in slow-motion so you can literally see your hair flying! Here’s a look at what the video includes:

PhotoPass Lenses Through My Disney Experience App

Another exciting element you can unlock for TRON Lightcycle / Run is PhotoPass Lenses! These can be used through the My Disney Experience app, and are available in certain areas around the TRON Lightcycle / Run attraction and queue. One of these PhotoPass lenses will transform you into a User from the TRON films, while another will put you on back of a racing Lightcycle!

As Harmon explains, the PhotoPass Lenses offered for TRON Lightcycle / Run are really unlike any other: “We’ve been working really hard to make sure that all who are here celebrating have access to some of the greatest photos that we have to offer.”

And he suggests taking full advantage of all of the one-of-a-kind PhotoPass opportunities available for this all-new attraction, even if you aren’t sure the specific lenses in question will work for you or your unique needs. “What we’ve always tried to tell people is work with the photographer you walk up to and ask them what they can do for you.”

Thanks to Disney for hosting us on a 2-night #AllTheDisneyThrills Media Event where we were able to conduct interviews, learn about exciting updates at Walt Disney World, stay at the Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, and experience several dining and attraction offerings. #AllTheDisneyThrills
