Top 5 Things to Do at Festival of the Arts

by | Jan 24, 2020 | EPCOT, WDW Blog

The 2020 Festival Season at EPCOT has officially begun (though if we’re being honest, does it ever really end?). EPCOT International Festival of the Arts began on Friday, January 17th and will run through February 24th.

Though FArts (as it is lovingly referred to by some) is the shortest of the EPCOT festivals there is still plenty of creative ways for you to spend your day as you wander around the world and take in all of the masterful art pieces displayed by artists.

If you feel like being artsy, here are the top ways to make the most out of your festival experience.

1. Animation Academy

This is the only time of year where you don’t have to travel to Animal Kingdom to learn how to draw your favorite Disney characters!

Relocated to the American Gardens Theater, visitors can stop by at 12:30 PM or 1:30 PM and get step-by-step instructions on how to create a Disney character. Warning: There are no erasers on your pencils!

2. Artsy Photo-Ops

What would be the point of an art festival if you can’t take amazing, Instagram-worthy photos? Scattered throughout the pavilions are frames where you can step in and be the masterpiece.

Located by The Land, EPCOT has decorated its construction walls with beautiful butterfly wings, perfectly placed so it looks like you grew your own pair of wings and are ready to fly around the world.

3. Disney on Broadway Concert Series

This may be the best concert series EPCOT has all year long. Disney Broadway stars take the stage and sing your favorite Disney Broadway songs. The best singer (in my opinion) is Josh Strickland.

The original Tarzan on Broadway, he puts more soul and passion into his songs than any person I have ever seen. If there is one person you don’t want to miss, it’s him.

4. Find Your Favorite Characters

Hidden among each country one can find iconic Disney characters painted upon the walls.

Though there is no prize for finding them, this secret scavenger hunt brings a smile to your face as each character pops up and represents their country accordingly.

5. Meet the Artist

Pick up your favorite piece of art and have the artist sign it for you. Check the Times Guide for when each artist will appear at EPCOT and plan accordingly. Want to meet a Disney star?

Paige O’Hara, the voice actress of Belle, is also an artist! She only visits for a few select days, but when you purchase her work you will get the chance to meet her, and who doesn’t want to meet Princess Belle?!

Festival of the Arts brings in the new year with color, creativity, and inspiration for everyone. I recommend this festival for all artists and those who support the arts because this is more than just pictures. This is painting, music, food, sculptures, and theater all rolled into six weeks of colorful fun for everyone.
