Big changes are officially coming to Tomorrowland at Disneyland, with Disney confirming plans to reimagine the iconic land with new attractions, open spaces, and more.

The future is looking a little different at Disneyland Park. During the closing moments of the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress presentation at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum announced that a major reimagining of Tomorrowland is officially in the works.

While Disney isn’t ready to reveal many specifics just yet, Walt Disney Imagineering has already begun developing plans for the transformation.

Disneyland’s Tomorrowland Will Be Reimagined

According to Disney, the goal of the project is to honor the legacy of the original Tomorrowland while reimagining the land for the future. Tomorrowland was one of Disneyland’s original lands when the park opened in 1955, designed around Walt Disney’s vision of a place that could look toward the possibilities of the future.

New Attractions Are Coming to Tomorrowland

The biggest piece of news is that the reimagining will include new attractions. Disney hasn’t announced what those attractions will be, how many are planned, or whether they’ll replace any existing Tomorrowland experiences. However, Imagineers are already working on ideas for the land’s next chapter.

Along with new attractions, Disney says the transformed Tomorrowland will feature more open spaces and new places for guests to dream about the future.

What Could Change in Tomorrowland?

For now, Disney hasn’t announced any attraction closures or confirmed which parts of the existing Tomorrowland will be affected.

Disneyland’s Tomorrowland is currently home to attractions and experiences including Space Mountain, Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Autopia, Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage, and the Disneyland Monorail.

Because Disney has emphasized that it intends to preserve what guests cherish most, it’s too early to assume which existing attractions will remain, change, or potentially make way for something new.

Disney also hasn’t released concept art showing what the reimagined land could look like.
