Grab your remote, because you’re going to watch these fresh upcoming Disney+ film and series releases as soon as they premiere in 2023!
If there’s one thing Disney+ is known for, it’s releasing a slew of fresh hits with the arrival of each new year. Since the streaming service first launched in November 2019, it’s rolled out incredible series, beloved documentaries, and a whole host of films for adults and kids alike. And based on Disney’s plans for 2023, there’s no signs the streaming service is slowing down.
This year, there’s a long list of upcoming releases that fans just can’t wait to see. With a list of planned 2023 releases that includes Marvel movies, Star Wars series, and even some classic Disney Animation movies and TV shows, here are some of the most highly-anticipated shows and movies coming to Disney+.
Star Wars: The Bad Batch, Season 2
Okay, technically this is a hot new release that’s already happened – but if you haven’t tuned in to The Bad Batch yet, you’re going to want to do so ASAP! Fans of animated Star Wars series will absolutely love the thrilling storylines, and it’s a chance to meet new characters within the larger universe.
In 2021, Season 1 of The Bad Batch was widely loved by fans. Season 2 picks up in 2023 with the Batch navigating the planets that have succumbed to the Empire after the fall of the Republic. As both a spinoff from and sequel to the much-hyped Star Wars: Clone Wars series that ran from 2008 to 2014 (and briefly again in 2020), anyone who’s been hankering for more of Dave Filoni’s storytelling will absolutely love The Bad Batch.
Release Date: The first episodes dropped on January 4, 2023 – dive in and catch up on Disney+ right now!
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder, Season 2
Fans of the original Disney cartoon The Proud Family were thrilled to see the Prouds return in 2022. This colorful animated series, which originally aired on the Disney Channel, was rebooted as The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder for Disney+ and captured a whole new generation of viewers. The original cast even returned, including Kyla Pratt, voice of Penny Proud. Now a teenager in the 2020s, Penny and her family and friends had a standout first season.
The second season of Louder and Prouder premiered in January 2023, and this time, it’s airing on Disney+, the Disney Channel, and Disney XD. If you’re looking for a new animated show to fall in love with, welcome the Proud family back onto your TV screen this year!
Release Date: January 7, 2023
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
As one of the most highly-anticipated Marvel films of 2022, it’s no surprise that fans are eagerly awaiting the release of the second installment in the Black Panther franchise on Disney+. Black Panther: Wakanda Forever saw huge success upon its premiere in theaters last November, and it’s stirred up particular interest and investment among fans due to the untimely passing of Chadwick Boseman.
If you’ve been anxiously waiting to watch this superhero movie again, good news: It’s coming to Disney+ early in 2023! You’ll be able to stream the sequel starting in February – and if you still have yet to see this moving film, you won’t want to miss its streaming premiere.
Release Date: February 1, 2023
The Mandalorian, Season 3
It’s been quite awhile since Disney+ subscribers have checked in with Mando, Grogu, and the colorful cast of characters that makes up the world of The Mandalorian. While we got a sneak peek at what Mando’s been up to since Season 2 in 2021’s The Book of Boba Fett, it’s been three years since our favorite Western-inspired duo has returned for a full season.
But the wait is almost over – The Mandalorian is set to return in March of 2023, and the hype is real! Thanks to a preview shown at D23 last September, fans know that the next season’s storyline is set to be hugely important as Din Djarin heads to the famed planet of Mandalore, reunites with Bo-Katan Kryze, Greef Karga, and Peli Motto, and hits the skies with Grogu in a shiny new ship (RIP to the Razor Crest!).
Release Date: March 1, 2023
The Muppets Mayhem
It’s been a while since some quality Muppets content came our way – but there’s good news ahead for 2023! One of the big releases planned for Disney+ this year is a brand-new live-action series called The Muppets Mayhem, featuring all of the familiar faces you know and love.
This fresh streaming-only series will follow Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, a musical band of Muppets, as they record their very first album. In addition to appearances by beloved Muppets like Janice, Animal, and Zoot, celebrities like Tahj Mowry, Cheech Marin, and Tommy Chong will also join the cast. You can catch each episode of the upcoming limited series late this spring.
Release Date: May 2023
Loki, Season 2
With his irresistible humor and fascinating backstory, Loki has long been a favorite within the Marvel cinema tic universe – and when he received his very own spinoff series on Disney+ in 2021, Loki became an instant hit. Season 1 introduced fans to a wholly new world within the MCU, as well as intriguing new characters like Miss Minutes, Mobius, and of course some uniquely entertaining variants of Loki himself from different timelines (I mean, who didn’t absolutely adore Alligator Loki?!).
Thanks to the success of the first season, Loki was greenlit for a second, which will premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023. We don’t know much yet about Season 2 of the series, but we do know that it’ll include a total of six new episodes and feature returning faces like Tom Hiddleston (obviously!) and some new characters played by Rafael Casal, Ke Huy Quan, and Kate Dickie.
Release Date: Unknown; expected mid-2023
X-Men ‘97

When Disney purchased the rights to the properties within 21st Century Fox, plenty of people were wondering what would become of classic comic book characters like the Fantastic Four and X-Men. That merger proved to bring these superheroes into the Disney fold – and now, longtime fans are seeing some seriously cool new appearances from their fave characters! One of the most hotly anticipated for 2023 is the premiere of X-Men ‘97 on Disney+.
With a premiere planned for fall of 2023, X-Men ‘97 will be a new animated series that acts as a sequel to the 1992 show X-Men: The Animated Series. It’ll be the very first time all of that show’s original voice actors reprise their roles since 2000. And let’s just say X-Men fans can’t wait! When this animated series hits Disney+, it’ll feature appearances by Rogue, Beast, Gambit, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Storm, Jubilee, and Cyclops. It’s expected to be so popular that it’s already been greenlit for a second season.
Release Date: Unknown; expected fall 2023
Ahsoka
Disney+ kicked off its launch with a whopper of a Star Wars series, so it’s no surprise that the franchise continues to be a powerhouse among fans of the streaming service. And now, after being introduced into live action in Season 2 of The Mandalorian, there’s another highly anticipated series coming in 2023: Ahsoka.
Set to star Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka herself, this series will be led by Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau just like The Mandalorian. While much is still unknown about how Ahsoka’s story will unfold, we do know that it’ll be set in the same timeframe as Din Djarin’s story (and their paths may cross once again). It’s also believed that multiple characters from the beloved Star Wars Rebels animated series will appear. Whatever form Ahsoka takes, it’s going to be must-see streaming TV for any Star Wars fan!
Release Date: Unknown; sometime in 2023
Ironheart
Have you been missing Iron Man in all of the new Marvel Comics content planned for the MCU? Well, while Tony Stark won’t be reappearing in any future films or series, a brand-new character will – Ironheart, or Riri Williams, who recently made her first onscreen appearance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. As part of Phase Five of the MCU, Ironheart will premiere on Disney+ as a six-episode series.
Ironheart is meant to pick up where the Iron Man storyline left off, sticking with the continuity of the film franchise. However, very little is known about what the series will entail. We do know that Dominique Thorne will play Ironheart; she’ll be joined by Anthony Ramos (who’ll play the series’ villain, The Hood), Lyric Ross, Harper Anthony, and Alden Ehrenreich.
Release Date: Unknown; expected in late 2023
Agatha: Coven of Chaos
Anyone who caught WandaVision in 2021 obviously wanted more Agatha (I mean, I still can’t get “Agatha All Along” out of my head!). This year, fans’ demands are being met with a spinoff series featuring our favorite not-so-nice witch, Agatha Harkness. Agatha: Coven of Chaos is expected to become one of 2023’s hottest Disney+ premieres, with a nine-episode series run planned for sometime late this year.
Kathryn Hahn will reprise her role as the series’ star, Agatha, and she’ll be joined by some seriously impressive fellow actors whose roles are yet to be announced. Debra Jo Rupp, Joe Locke, Aubrey Plaza, Patti LuPone, Ali Ahn, Maria Dizzia, Sasheer Zamata, and Emma Caulfield Ford are all part of the rumored cast. Filming is still happening (it’s scheduled through late May 2023), but we do know that this much-hyped series will be part of the MCU’s Phase Five.
Release Date: Unknown; expected in late 2023
