Today in Disney History, 2015: The BOATHOUSE Opened at Disney Springs

by | Apr 13, 2024 | Disney History, Disney Springs, Walt Disney World Food, WDW Blog

On this date in Disney history, Disney Springs welcomed The BOATHOUSE to its vast portfolio of restaurants. Located on the water, this vibrant dining experience is next to the unique amphicar experience.

At Disney Springs, you can find just about every dining option available. You can choose to eat in the prehistoric age amongst dinosaurs and amphibious creatures at T-REX, or enjoy tapas from a world-famous chef at Jaleo by José Andrés. Another option is to enjoy waterfront dining, which is exactly what you can do over at The BOATHOUSE in the Landing section of the district.

The BOATHOUSE Opening

The BOATHOUSE first opened on April 13, 2015, amidst Downtown Disney’s transformation into what is now known as Disney Springs. The location offers delicious waterfront dining, with an extensive menu that includes steaks, seafood, and even a cocktail with a rubber duck. Each part of the restaurant is nautically themed, with two private dining rooms available for special events.

Amphicars

Perhaps one of The BOATHOUSE’s most unique aspects is that it takes place outside the dining room. With its prime location on the water, you have the option to take a guided tour on Amphicars, which look like vintage cars that start on land and drive right into the water.

You can book a 20-minute guided tour for $125 per car, which will accommodate three to four people and take you on a ride around Lake Buena Vista. Walk-up reservations are accepted, with tours happening each day from 10 AM to 10 PM (weather permitting).

Fascinatingly, The BOATHOUSE is the only place in the world that offers this experience! The fleet of Amphicars was first purchased from private collections, with less than 4,000 of these produced in the 1960s. Today, less than 400 exist worldwide.

Book Your Reservation at The BOATHOUSE

Want to book your reservation at the restaurant? You can make an Advance Dining Reservation 60 days before your arrival, or make a reservation online directly.
