Disney has shared more details on the upcoming Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, including when Splash Mountain in Disneyland will be closing for construction to begin.
In January 2023, Splash Mountain closed permanently in Disney World to make way for the new Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, a Princess and the Frog-themed water flume that will be taking over Splash Mountain in both Disney World and Disneyland. At the time we did not have an official closing date for Disneyland’s Splash Mountain, but Disney has just revealed the last time fans will be able to ride Splash Mountain in California.
Splash Mountain in Disneyland Closing
Splash Mountain in Disneyland will officially close starting on May 31, 2023. Its counterpart in Disney World closed a few months ago in late January 2023, and construction has already begun. As of now, Disney has not revealed exact opening dates for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure in Disney World or Disneyland, only the timeline of late 2024.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will is set a year after the events of The Princess and the Frog. Tiana has created Tiana’s Food, an employee-owned Food cooperative to help her community. Riders will be guests visiting during Carnival season as Tiana hosts a celebration for the people of New Orleans. She realizes her celebration is missing a key ingredient and asks for the guests’ help in finding it. On the ride, guests will be able to meet new characters and join Tiana and Louis on a trip to the bayou.
New Details for Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Along with new of the closing date for Splash Mountain in Disneyland, Disney also shared new details now what guests will be able to experience on Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Namely, Disney shared that Mama Odie will be featured on the upcoming ride! Disney revealed new concept art showing Mama Odie on the ride, joking with guests after a “special display of her magic.” Actress Jenifer Lewis, who voiced Mama Odie in The Princess and the Frog, will return to voice the character once more in the ride.
New Orleans artist Sharika Mahdi served as inspiration for the Imagineers working on the project. You can see the artwork she created of Mama Odie above, serving as a “tribute to our wise and whimsical keeper of the bayou.”
