So Much to Love at Wilderness Lodge!

by | Mar 9, 2020 | WDW Blog

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge takes guests glamping in the Pacific Northwest—and it’s got all the charm of a rustic wooded getaway, the amenities you’d expect at a Deluxe resort, and the whimsy that only Disney can provide, with every detail offering more to appreciate the longer you linger.

We recently toured this fan-favorite property during a Resort Showcase media event and got a glimpse into the comfy way of life in the wilderness.

Your Room Is Ready

Disney’s Wilderness Lodge offers twenty-two (yes, you heard that right!) types of rooms with everything from king-size beds to bunks, nature views to fireworks views, space for 2 to 12 guests, and pool proximity to a private spa on your balcony overlooking Bay Lake.

There’s something here for every family! A few years ago, DVC villas came to the resort, expanding on the hotel rooms that are still offered today.  Whether you’re looking for a traditional hotel room, a villa with up to three bedrooms or a private cabin for a magical family get together, there are plenty of options.

The finishes in the DVC suites are surprisingly modern and fresh, but they still evoke a woodsy feeling with lots of live-edge wood, geode-inspired artwork, stone and tapestries all in a craftsman aesthetic.

In the Boulder Ridge area, we saw a Deluxe Studio, which is more like a typical hotel room with a tiny kitchenette, a 2-Bedroom villa which featured a huge balcony and a gorgeous deep-soaking tub, and the pièce de résistance: a Cascade Cabin at Copper Creek.

We’ll go into all of the details on this cabin in a future blog post, but it was spectacular!  Easily the most impressive room we saw on the trip, and maybe the best in all of WDW.  Room is actually a misnomer since this is actually a complete, detached HOUSE.

There’s a master bedroom with a walk-in shower and soaker tub, another bedroom, a separated bathroom, a great room with a living, dining, and kitchen space (yes, a full kitchen), an indoor/outdoor fireplace, a wraparound deck, and a private hot tub.  Absolutely splurge-worthy.

The Comforts of Home

If the rooms are as comfy as your real house (maybe more… I’d LOVE to LIVE in that cabin!), the rest of the resort has to match up, right?  Well, that’s where the amenities come in, which I personally think is what makes this a resort that so many guests love to come back to time and time again.

There’s an outdoor barbecue so you can bring your own food an have a cookout.  Inside the lobby with it’s soaring high ceilings, you’ll find the World’s coziest fireplace surrounded by rocking chairs—perfect to snuggle up with your sweetie, a cup of coffee, or a good book.

At Christmas, the resort goes all out with traditional decorations made from evergreen boughs, poinsettias, ribbons, pinecones, and wood ornaments.  Rustic elegance at it’s finest.

And the food at Wilderness Lodge is perfect to give you that at-home feel.  You’ll find plenty of variety from bananas foster french toast and campfire brownies to bison burgers and prime rib. But the ultimate experience in dining here is at Whispering Canyon Cafe, a rowdy cowboy-themed restaurant that sits nestled within the lobby itself.

This is where you can indulge in dreamy comfort foods like cornbread, smoked ribs, buttered corn, the BEST creamy mashed potatoes, and more. Even vegans can get in on the BBQ fun with plant-based options. There’s an a la carte menu, but with an all-you-care-to-enjoy skillet, you’re sure to have any hunger pangs washed away.

Save room for dessert, like the MASSIVE Whispering Canyon Pioneer Chocolate Cake. And just like that, it’s food coma time.

There’s some good old fashioned fun to be had here too.  If you need to use the washroom, don’t forget to ask for a FastPass from your server.

Charming Details

It wouldn’t be Disney without the details.  The Carolwood Pacific room celebrates Walt Disney’s love of trains (read all about it in our February 2020 issue!). Firerock Geyser erupts hourly, in tribute to Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park.  And remember that impressive lobby?

Look around at the wood carvings on the poles that create four pillars: they’re all carved with woodland animals… who are positioned appropriately to where they live in their environment (birds at the top near the sky, bears partway up a tree, etc.).  Leave it to Disney to think of everything.

There is nowhere on Walt Disney world property that will make you feel cozier or more at home than this glamping resortGet a quote on your stay at Disney’s Wilderness Lodge from our partners at Destinations to Travel today!

Thanks to Disney for hosting us on a 3-night Resort Showcase where we got to tour and experience many of Walt Disney World’s resorts and restaurants, including Disney’s Wilderness Lodge and Whispering Canyon Cafe. #wdwresorts #deliciousdisney
