Are You Breaking These Surprising Disney World Rules?

by | Jul 9, 2024 | Walt Disney World

Did you know about these surprising Disney World rules? These are the guidelines you may not have known for visiting the parks.

Disney World may be the Most Magical Place on Earth, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t guidelines in place. There are quite a few standard on property rules that everyone knows, including no weapons on the property, and anything else that would put other guests or Cast Members’ safety at rick. But, there are also quite a few rules that may be a bit more surprising to learn. We’re sharing some of the, perhaps, lesser-known rules at Walt Disney World.

No Balloons/ PlasticStraws at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge

Disney World is home to wildlife conservation centers, which means they do quite a bit to keep animals safe in their natural environment. In an effort to do that, you cannot have plastic straws or balloons at Disney’s Animal Kingdom or Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge Jambo House or Kidani Village. You’ll notice that none of these items are sold in any of the locations and if purchased elsewhere, you will need to disregard these items before entering.

Can’t Hang Your Clothes from a Balcony

A popular place for people to hang their wet clothes or towels is typically outside. But, you are prohibited from hanging items over the railings at your Walt Disney World Resort. This secret rule is in effect because of the hazard to people below or the risk of wind blowing your item away.

No Selfie Sticks

If you are like us, we love a good group selfie in front of Cinderella Castle. But, you cannot actually use a selfie stick to take that selfie. Disney created this rule because of the hazard that selfie sticks could pose to other guests. If you vlog or use a camera on a gimbal, you are able to take that into the park but you cannot bring a long extendable selfie stick.

Adults Can’t Get Dressed Up

You’ve probably walked around the Disney Parks and seen lots of kids dressed as their favorite Disney Princesses and characters. But, did you know as an adult you aren’t able to get dressed up as a character in the parks during the day? The reason being that they don’t want children to confuse guests with character cast members. Now, there is an exception to the rule of no costumes for adults. During Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, all guests are able to wear costumes, both adults and kids alike.

Characters and Wedding Proposals

Have you ever seen those fun Disney wedding proposals where the Disney characters are waiting in the wings? Well, there is a reason for that. Disney Characters are not permitted to hold up banners, present flowers or balloons, or even hold an engagement ring. They will typically walk over to the side and then celebrate once the moment is over.

No Wrapping Paper Allowed

If you are celebrating a special occasion at Walt Disney World, you will have to bring the gift unwrapped. While moving through Security Checkpoints, all items have to be able to be viewed and cannot be wrapped and blocked. If you are bringing a gift, consider bringing a bag and tissue paper in your bag and wrapping it in the park.
