EPCOT’s Festival of the Holidays is here at Walt Disney World, and so is our honest, ad-free review of the NEW Hawaii booth: Mele Kalikimaka Holiday Kitchen!
New to the festival this year, Mele Kalikimaka is bringing us flavors from the islands of Hawaii!
I’ve always enjoyed their booth at EPCOT International Food and Wine festival so I had high expectations for their holiday booth.
Let’s talk about the food!
My first impression was that all the food items were very colorful and eye catching. I was especially surprised by the purple sweet potato mash, so I decided to give that dish a try first!
First up is Kalua Pork which has shredded pork served with Okinawa purple sweet potatoes and topped with a mango salad.
The pork was flavorful and tender and paired well with the sweetness of the potatoes.
I did wish for more mango salad and less potatoes since its portion overpowered the dish.
Lomi Lomi Salmon
The Lomi Lomi Salmon dish consists of raw diced salmon mixed with salmon roe, yuzu mayonnaise, onions and tomatoes.
It is served in an adorable plastic round bowl with a side of yucca chips. The presentation was beautiful and I was so excited to try it! I was immediately surprised by how fresh and bright the flavors were. Every component complimented each other nicely and the onions provided a crunchy texture. However, for $6.00 I had hoped for a bigger portion and could have done without the yucca chips.
Last but not least is the Hawaiian Haupia dessert!
It is a coconut pudding with candied macadamia nuts and coconut. I have to admit that despite not being the biggest coconut fan, I really enjoyed this dessert.
It was airy and creamy without an overly strong coconut taste. I also enjoyed how this dessert was served chilled which made it light and refreshing compared to other desserts found at the festival.
For more sweetness, dip it with the guava tasting sauce!
