Wondering what height requirements you need to know to ride Walt Disney World’s most popular attractions? We’re answering some of the most common questions about height requirements across the theme parks.

Planning your family’s visit to Disney World requires some consideration of height restrictions on the rides and attractions. You want to ensure your children enjoy as many of the park’s offerings as possible. With careful planning and attention to height requirements, you can guarantee your family has a fun and memorable experience at Disney World.

Think you can’t ride much with little ones in tow? Well, I have visited Disney with my son since he was less than a year old. It has been amazing to watch our trips change over the years as he has grown and been able to experience new rides and attractions.

If you’re trying to figure out which rides your kids can ride, our Height Requirements Guide has got you covered with all the specific height information you need to know before you hop on any ride. Still have questions? I’m answering some of the most commonly-asked height requirement questions below.

Is Disney World Strict When It Comes to Height Requirements?

Yes, Disney follows the height requirements posted for each ride very strictly. Remember, these height restrictions are for safety reasons; they are put in place to ensure everyone who rides the attraction is safe and secure and that no injuries occur.

In fact, an Avenger once shared a cautionary tale about the consequences of disregarding height requirements. Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and his family were at Disneyland Park, and he took his daughter to the new  Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! (just after it has been rethemed from The Tower of Terror).  She was disappointed as she was too small to ride this particular ride. He then planned to add some height inside her shoes so that she would appear taller and meet the height requirements. Note: Please never attempt to add to anyone’s height to ride any attraction!

As the ride began to drop, she started to come out of her safety buckle! Luckily, he grabbed her and held her in the seat for the remaining duration.

You can watch the full interview to hear the whole story from Thor himself and to listen to him explain that he would never do that again.

How Is Height Measured?

If a Cast Member requires your child’s height to be confirmed before continuing to the ride queue, they will kindly ask you to have your child stand against the measurement structure. In typical Disney fashion, the ride measurements are fun, and themed structures make the process enjoyable for kids.

They will be asked to stand with their backs against the measurement structure to ensure they meet the height requirements. They may also be asked again throughout the queue (at a Lightning Lane checkpoint, for example) and before getting into the ride vehicle, if necessary. The safety of all guests is a top priority, so don’t be surprised if Cast Members want to double- and triple-check a child’s height.

During my recent visit to Magic Kingdom, my family and I stood in line for Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. We were behind a young family whom a Cast Member asked to have their daughter’s height checked. The Cast Member was very kind, and we waited behind them so they wouldn’t lose their place in line. It only took a few seconds to confirm that the girl was tall enough, and once the Cast Member ensured that she was, everyone cheered.

What Park Has the Least Height Restrictions?

At all Disney theme parks, there are always rides for any height, which makes planning a visit to any of the parks perfect for any age and for families with children of different ages.

If you’re wondering which park offers the best options for every age, Magic Kingdom has the most attractions and the most without height requirements.

TRON Lightcycle / Run has the tallest requirement for any ride in this park at 48 inches or taller. The smaller height requirements apply to the Tomorrowland Speedway: 32 inches or taller (To drive the car alone, the guest must be 54 inches or taller) and The Barnstormer: 35 inches or taller.

A park day at Disney’s Hollywood Studios will have the most attractions that have height requirements. It’s a  great park to prioritize for all the thrill seekers in your family! The smallest requirement at this park is for Alien Swirling Saucers, where riders need to be just 32 inches or taller. The tallest requirement applies to Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith: riders will need to be 48 inches or taller.

Once your child reaches 48 inches, they can ride any ride across all four of the Walt Disney World theme parks. I recently got to experience watching my son join Team Blue on TRON, and he was so proud that he was tall enough to ride the newest attraction.

Along with making sure your little one can ride all the rides, you will also want to double-check for any upcoming 2024 ride refurbishments and closures. You can also refer to your My Disney Experience app for any rides or attractions that have an unplanned closure during your visit.

There’s always something new to discover and experience at any of the Walt Disney World theme parks, regardless of your age and height. After all, it is the Most Magical Place on Earth!
