Portraits of Course: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to American Warriors is an exhibit filled with more than 60 vibrant oil paintings created by President George W. Bush. The paintings feature service members and veterans who have served in military uniform with honor since 9/11, and whom the President has come to know personally since he left office in 2009.

The exhibit is both a personal and professional project, as it came about thanks to President Bush’s personal commitment to and ongoing work with the Bush Institute’s Veterans and Military Families program.

Each one of the paintings featured is paired with the inspiring story of the veteran who’s depicted. Guests can learn about not only these heroes’ names and years of service, but also their journeys, including tales of valiant battlefield service, resilience in recovery, and continued leadership and contributions made in post-military careers.

While each portrait was painted by President Bush himself, you’ll want to note his contributions to the individual service members’ and veterans’ stories, too. He personally wrote each one of them.

Lastly, the Portraits of Courage art exhibit offers information and resources designed for veterans, too. These resources are intended to support post-9/11 veterans and their families, like Check-In, a tool that helps veterans and their families find no-cost, high-quality mental and brain healthcare.

You can see Portraits of Courage: A Commander in Chief’s Tribute to American Warriors now during your next visit to EPCOT.
