With my flight to California just under a week away, I am starting to PLAN the days I’ll be spending at the #D23Expo and the Disneyland Resort! Only visiting these parks once before, it’s safe to say that my excitement for this trip is soarin’ to infinity and beyond! (Too many Disney puns? Okay, I’ll try to hold it back a bit…)
The first day I arrive will be before the D23 Expo begins, so you can bet my girlfriend Cara and I will be park-hopping, food-trying, and attraction-riding! The top must-dos on our list are…
- Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
- Indiana Jones Adventure
- Haunted Mansion (of course)
- Matterhorn Bobsleds
- Alice in Wonderland
- Pirates of the Caribbean
- Seeing the Paint the Night Parade
- Refreshment Corner (the closest opportunity for me to get a Casey’s Corner-fix!)
Now, let’s discuss the aspects, presentations, and experiences of the D23 Expo that are on my radar…
Luckily, I’ve been able to take advantage of the newly released official D23 Expo 2015 App to find the schedule, floor map, and other must-know details all in one place. The avid collector in me of all sorts of Disney products (but mainly pins, Vinylmation, vintage collectibles, and pretty much anything having to do with the Haunted Mansion and Pixar) has been so perplexed over the numerous shopping locations here… Disney Dream Store, Mickey’s of Glendale, Emporium (and the sale of a specially designed John Lasseter Hawaiian shirt) – Where do I go first!? Looks like Cara might have to help me out with this one. Unless she’s too busy looking at the Star Wars merchandise on sale at Her Universe…
Okay, back on track! I’ve found the following Hall D23 Presentations (on Friday, August 14th) to be the most enticing: Disney Legends Awards (Hosted by Bob Iger), and Pixar & Walt Disney Animation Studios: The Upcoming Films (Hosted by John Lasseter).
Saturday, August 15th starts off with a presentation at Stage 28 titled, One Little Spark: Marty Sklar Presents Mickey’s Ten Commandments and The Road to Imagineering. As incredible as that sounds, and as hopeful/excited as I am to have a chance to see that presentation… I just can’t stop thinking about a presentation taking place later that day at Hall D23: Walt Disney Parks and Resorts! What could be revealed at this seminar? Could it tell the future of Disney’s Hollywood Studios? A possible Disneyland expansion? More details on the Avatar Project of Disney’s Animal Kingdom? Hearing any announcements of this kind, first hand, would be such a special experience.
Two presentations on Sunday, August 16th (the final day of the D23 Expo) are sticking out to me as what I think will be the most exciting of the day. One takes place in Hall D23 and is titled, It’s Game Time: Disney Interactive Takes The Stage. As Disney Interactive continues to grow and expand with new products, this presentation looks to disclose exciting information on these upcoming games. The second, Experience The World With Disney: Adventures by Disney, Aulani, Disney Cruise Line, and Disney Vacation Club, will be inside Stage 28.
Why do I think this one will be so interesting? Two words: Joe Rohde. This legendary Imagineer has been, and is my favorite creative genius in this division of the Walt Disney Company–if he’s going to tell a story, I’m sure my eyes and ears won’t want to miss a second. I also saw on the D23 Expo App that he’ll be part of an autograph session to follow this Stage 28 presentation! (I’ll keep my fingers crossed on this one…)
I am so excited to be a part of the WDW Magazine/Dad’s Guide to WDW team that will attend this massive, fun-packed event. As #DadGoesWest, copies of The Best of WDW – Volume 1 and WDW Magazine’s 2016 Wall Calendar will be doing the same. If you’re heading to the D23 Expo as well, stop by our booth (A514) and say hello–It would be great to meet you!
