When you’ve been waiting almost 20 years to see Ewan McGregor don the robe and become Obi-Wan Kenobi again, what’s another couple days? The man himself on Thursday announced that Obi-Wan Kenobi will now premiere on Friday, May 27—two days later than its original release date.
Ewan McGregor Breaks the Bad (and Very Good) News

McGregor, who just so happens to be celebrating his 51st birthday today, delivered the news in a short video uploaded to the Star Wars YouTube channel. But it wasn’t all bad news!
Disney+ will now launch Obi-Wan Kenobi on its new release date with two episodes. Perhaps this is a sort of mea culpa or a late birthday gift from Ewan to all of us.
Better still? The new release date for Obi-Wan Kenobi now falls on a Friday. What a way to end a week, huh?
Subsequent episodes will air on Wednesdays. That means you’ll have just five days between the second and third episodes.

Hayden Christensen Calls Vader Role ‘Great Honor’
While the birthday boy will rightly get a lot of attention today, McGregor’s co-star and on-screen rival was also in the news this week.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Hayden Christensen said that he and Ewan are both grateful for the chance to revisit their roles 17 years after Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith.
“I can tell you the first time that I saw Ewan as Obi-Wan again, that was a very special moment for me and one that I’ll remember for a very, very long time,” Christensen told EW’s Dalton Ross.

He said that having the chance to become Darth Vader is “a great honor,” calling the continuation of his portrayal of Anakin “very meaningful.” In a separate interview with Ross earlier this month, he said we should expect to see “a very powerful Vader” in the series.
And even with the extra two days, we don’t have long to wait. We’re just 56 sleeps away from the new Obi-Wan Kenobi release date on Disney+. Clear your calendars now.
