New Finding Nemo Musical at Disney World Set During Finding Dory

by | Nov 21, 2021 | Animal Kingdom, Disney Movies, Walt Disney World, Walt Disney World News

After what will have been two years of closure, we’re finally getting the new Finding Nemo musical, a totally reimagined version of the old show that now takes place in the timeline of Finding Dory.

Earlier this year, Disney announced that it would finally be reviving its beloved Finding Nemo — The Musical stage show in Animal Kingdom, but when it returned, it would have new characters, a new plot, new music, and a new name.

This weekend, during Destination D23, we learned the name of this revised Finding Nemo musical: Finding Nemo: The Big Blue… and Beyond!

What Makes the New Finding Nemo Musical Different?

In Finding Nemo — The Musical, the story followed the original tale of Pixar’s Finding Nemo. Since the musical opened in 2007, Pixar has since released Finding Dory (2016), but the musical remained unupdated.

The closure due to the pandemic allowed the perfect opportunity for Disney to reimagine its existing Finding Nemo-based musical. That means new characters and plot details reeled in from Finding Dory, as well as new songs to accompany it.

However, Disney has promised that two fan-favorite songs—”In the Big Blue World” and “Go with the Flow”—will return.

Even the setting of the musical has changed. “When you take a seat in the theater, you’ll find yourself at the Marine Life Institute,” says Disney. Fans of Finding Dory will recognize that as where Dory winds up in search of her parents.

We’ll still get to see some of our favorite friends from the first film in the franchise. Disney reports, “As the show begins, we catch up with the fish from Dr. P. Sherman’s office in Finding Nemo, who have made their way across the ocean to California. They tell the story of Nemo and how they all got there, incorporating many of the beloved songs and production numbers from the original show.”
