Disney KiteTails a New Daytime Spectacular

The next time someone tells you to go fly a kite, ask them first why they’re using such an outdated expression. Then ask if they’d instead like to come to Animal Kingdom with you to watch other people fly kites.

Disney KiteTails will play out daily at the Discovery River Amphitheater in Animal Kingdom from Oct. 1. While there aren’t any official photos just yet, the early concept art suggests quite a show.

Performers on the banks of the Discovery River will hoist up windcatchers and kites depicting colorful creatures. Add your favorite Disney songs to bop along to, and this alone would make for quality entertainment.

But, oh, we are far from done. This wouldn’t be a daytime spectacular if Disney didn’t go out of the way to make it a spectacle, would it? Out on the river, jet skis will fly massive three-dimensional kites up to 30 feet in length. These kites will take the shape of some familiar faces like Simba, King Louie, Baloo, and Zazu.

This new fixture at Animal Kingdom is just one of the upcoming entertainments announced Tuesday for The World’s Most Magical Celebration. October kicks off an 18-month celebration commemorating the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World Resort.

In addition to Disney KiteTails, WDW will roll out all sorts of goodies for guests, including a pair of new nighttime spectaculars. Disney Enchantment at Magic Kingdom Park and Harmonious at EPCOT both kick off Oct. 1. Each is a grand, glorious celebration of five decades of magic at Walt Disney World Resort and beyond.

You’ll also get new EARidescent fashions, which will be on display in Mickey’s Celebration Cavalcade. Mickey, Minnie, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale will all be showing off and showing out.

And while you stroll around Magic Kingdom Park, you’ll spot golden character sculptures of the Disney Fab 50—expect to learn the full roster before the celebration begins in October.

We’re just a bit over three months away from the kickoff of Disney KiteTails and The World’s Most Magical Celebration. Check back in at WDW Magazine in the weeks ahead for all the latest to get excited about.
