New Haunted Mansion Parlor Details

Can’t wait to see what’s in store inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor? Neither can we – and luckily, Disney is unveiling some exciting and eerie new details about what guests can expect! Below, take a peek at some of the spooky touches and frightful details you won’t want to miss.

A Haunting Portrait Gallery With Original Characters

Step inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor and witness an eerie portrait gallery depicting some of the wandering souls that have taken residence in the Disney Treasure. The portraits mimic the art stylings used by Disney Imagineers for the original attraction, incorporating present-day technology to entertain guests.

The Mariner

The Mariner is a concept that was first created by Disney animator Marc Davis. The portrait first occupied the original Haunted Mansion attraction before heading to the versions at both Walt Disney World Resort and Tokyo Disney Resort.

On the Disney Treasure, teh Mariner’s story will further evolve and come to life, paying tribute to the impactful legacy Marc Davis has had on the Haunted Mansion properties throughout the years.

Sea Captain

The “good-humored sea captain” will also have a portrait on the walls of the Haunted Mansion Parlor. According to Disney, his lifelong dream was to serve on a luxury ocean liner. But that was cut short due to his untimely death. However, his soul has stayed in his private parlor, where it seems he has still kept his overall “merry” spirit.

The Captain’s Bride-to-Be

The Captain’s bride-to-be will also have her likeness displayed on the walls of the Haunted Mansion Parlor. Her portrait will take inspiration from Marc Davis’ iconic “cat lady” concept that can be found in the original Haunted Mansion attraction. In a similar fashion, inside the Haunted Mansion Parlor, her portrait will flicker to reveal her true form (and, according to Disney, “perhaps her true intentions.”).

According to the lore of the parlor, the doomed couple’s first encounter takes place when The captain receives a distress transmission from another ship. He altered course to help its rescue, but when he got there, only a destroyed ship and a lone survivor remained, a woman floating in the debris. The bride-to-be had bright green eyes, chestnut hair, and a golden key around her neck. The Captain was taken by her beauty, and they soon became engaged.

Check Out a Ghostly Aquarium

There’s a special detail that can be found in the Haunted Mansion Parlour based on an original concept from the Disneyland ride! When the Haunted Mansion attraction was first being planned for Disneyland, Disney Imagineer Rolly Crump proposed a concept for a “Museum of the Weird” exhibit. Many of Rolly’s initial ideas ended up being used throughout the attraction, but there were a few that remained in the vault. One of those was the concept of a mysterious aquarium filled with ghost fish. Now, more than fifty years later, Disney Imagineers have created a modern “Aquarium With Ghost Fish” for the Haunted Mansion Parlor based on Rolly’s concept!

The aquarium will play a part in the backstory of the Haunted Mansion Parlor’s former sea captain owner. According to legends passed down by The Captain’s crew, he was last seen heading to his parlor for a special meal prepared by his betrothed. But, all that remained of The Captain and his bride after they vanished was his hat, found floating in the aquarium tank.

Disney Cruise Line-Exclusive Mug Line

As previously revealed, there will be a Disney Cruise Line-exclusive commemorative mug collection that will debut onboard the Disney Treasure. The mugs take inspiration from the Haunted Mansion parlor, appearing as if they’ve been carved from wooden planks of a ghost ship.

You can see early sketches and models for the first in a series that will be coming to the Disney Treasure. One is inspired by The Mariner, while the other is inspired by The Captain’s Bride.
