Disney has revealed major new details about Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, including when the two new Avengers Campus attractions will finally open at Disney California Adventure.

Avengers Campus is getting ready for its biggest expansion yet. During D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, Disney shared new details about the two attractions currently under construction at Disney California Adventure — and, most importantly, confirmed when guests will be able to experience them.

Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab will both open in 2028, as part of an expansion that will double the size of Avengers Campus.

Disney also revealed new details about the stories, ride experiences, and Marvel stars reprising their roles for the attractions.

Avengers Campus Expansion Opening in 2028

Disney first announced plans for the two new attractions at D23 in 2024, with construction now underway at Disney California Adventure.

The expansion will eventually double the size of Avengers Campus, adding Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab to the existing lineup of experiences. Disney also announced that the expanded land will reconnect with neighboring Cars Land.

Both new attractions are officially scheduled to debut in 2028.

New Avengers Infinity Defense Details

Avengers Infinity Defense will send recruits on a mission across multiple worlds to stop King Thanos.

The experience will begin with a pre-mission briefing from Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani. Guests will then be tasked with reassembling the Avengers to battle King Thanos before he can wreak havoc across multiple worlds.

Several familiar Marvel stars will reprise their roles for the attraction, including:

• Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye
• Anthony Mackie as Captain America
• Chris Hemsworth as Thor
• Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man

Once aboard, guests will travel through a combination of large-scale physical sets and massive media scenes, designed to make it feel as though they’re moving between different worlds alongside the Avengers.

The adventure will take recruits to familiar locations including Asgard, Wakanda, and New York City, eventually leading to an encounter with King Thanos himself.

Disney has previously shared that the attraction’s story revolves around technology that allows the Avengers to jump between worlds falling into the wrong hands. King Thanos — a version of Thanos who won — is using that technology to create chaos across the multiverse.

Stark Flight Lab Will Let Guests Train Like an Avenger

Avengers Infinity Defense isn’t the only attraction coming to the expanded land. Stark Flight Lab will offer an entirely different type of experience inspired by Tony Stark’s technology.

Guests will board two-person “gyro-kinetic pods” that travel along a track before arriving at a test station. There, a giant robotic arm will pick up the pod and send riders through a series of high-speed maneuvers inspired by Iron Man and other flying Avengers.

The attraction is designed to simulate what it might feel like to train as a flying Avenger.

Disney also confirmed three Marvel stars who will reprise their roles for Stark Flight Lab:

• Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man
• Anthony Mackie as Captain America
• Brie Larson as Captain Marvel

Disney previously previewed the ride system and experience for Stark Flight Lab at SXSW in 2025, but the latest D23 announcement gives us a clearer idea of which heroes will be part of the finished attraction.

When Will the New Avengers Campus Rides Open?

Both Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab will open at Disney California Adventure in 2028. Disney has not yet announced a more specific opening date.

Construction is already underway on the major expansion, which will ultimately double the footprint of Avengers Campus.

The two additions will significantly expand the land’s attraction lineup, joining WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure and Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! as Disney California Adventure continues to build out its Marvel experiences.
