Disney has shared a first look at Mufasa: The Lion King, an upcoming prequel to the live-action version of The Lion King.

There are some exciting Disney movies to look forward to for the rest of the year! This summer, we’ll get Pixar’s Inside Out 2, with Moana 2 following in November. And in December, we’ll be getting a prequal when Mufasa: The Lion King hits theaters. And now, we have our first look at the film.

First Look at Mufasa: The Lion King

As part of the 2024 Walt Disney Company Shareholders meeting, a first look at the upcoming film was shared. The movie will serve as a prequel to the 2019 live-action remake of The Lion King.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, the story will follow the younger versions of King Mufasa and Scar. As part of the story, Rafiki will tell Kiara (daughter of Simba and Nala) the story of her grandfather and his rise to becoming king of the Pride Lands. Of course, Pumbaa and Timon will be around to add some commentary of their own! Seth Rogen, Bill Eichner, and John Kani will reprise their roles of Pumbaa, Timon, and Rafiki, respectively. The cast will also include Aaron Pierre as Mufasa and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Scar.

The film will be coming to theaters on December 20, 2024. But, in the mean time, if you can’t get enough of The Lion King, make sure to head to Disney’s Animal Kingdom this summer. The park will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the animated film with special events, treats, and more!
