Monstropolis is coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, with parts of the new “Monsters, Inc.” land set to open in 2027. Here’s everything we know about the attractions, restaurants, entertainment, and more.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios is getting ready to welcome humans to Monstropolis! First announced during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event, the ambitious new land will transport guests into the monster city made famous by Disney and Pixar’s Monsters, Inc.
And we now know much more about what we’ll find when we arrive. During D23 2026, Disney confirmed that parts of Monstropolis will open in 2027, with new dining, entertainment, shopping, and immersive locations bringing the city to life. Meanwhile, construction continues on the land’s headlining door vault coaster.
From Harryhausen’s Restaurant to a new show starring Mike and Sulley, here’s everything we know about Monstropolis at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Monsters, Inc. Land Hollywood Studios Overview
The new Monsters, Inc. land takes place after the events of the original Pixar film, when Monstropolis has transitioned from scream power to laugh power.
After Mike Wazowski and James P. Sullivan discovered that human laughter generates significantly more energy than screams, the breakthrough didn’t just solve the city’s energy crisis. It also began changing the way monsters viewed humans.
For generations, monsters believed humans were dangerous and toxic. As that fear began to fade, Monstropolis established a new Department of Human Relations to help monsters better understand the human world.
Now, for the first time, humans are officially being invited into Monstropolis.

The occasion is known as H.U.M.A.N. Day, short for “Humans Understanding Monsters Are Nice.” The citywide celebration will serve as a cultural exchange between monsters and humans, giving us the chance to explore the streets, meet residents, sample monster cuisine, and experience everyday life in Monstropolis.
Rather than simply creating a collection of Monsters, Inc. attractions, Disney is designing Monstropolis as a fully realized city. Storefronts, restaurants, entertainment venues, industries, and other details will fill its streets, with familiar locations and new additions expanding the world seen in the films.
When Will Monsters, Inc. Land Open at Hollywood Studios?
Disney has now confirmed that parts of Monstropolis will open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2027.
That’s an important distinction: Disney has not announced that the entire land will open at once. Construction is continuing on the massive door coaster, and Disney has not yet provided an opening date for that attraction.
Other areas of Monstropolis, however, are expected to begin welcoming human visitors in 2027. Construction is already well underway, with structural steel rising in the former Muppets Courtyard area.
Where Will Monsters, Inc. Land Be Located?
Monstropolis is being built in the former Muppets Courtyard area of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
The project replaces several longtime locations, including Muppet*Vision 3D, PizzeRizzo, and Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano, which closed in 2025 to make way for construction.
This isn’t simply a retheme of the former area. Disney is transforming it into an expansive city environment inspired by Monsters, Inc., complete with streets, storefronts, dining, entertainment, and the massive Monsters, Inc. factory.
Fans of The Muppets haven’t had to say goodbye to the characters entirely. They’ve moved across the park to the former Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith, which is now Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.
Monsters, Inc. Door Coaster
The headlining attraction in Monstropolis will take guests inside the Monsters, Inc. factory and its famous door vault. The attraction will be Disney’s first suspended coaster, recreating one of the most memorable sequences from the original movie as guests race among the thousands of doors stored inside the factory.
The loading experience will also introduce another first for a Disney park. Guests will board before their ride vehicles are lifted vertically into the air, recreating the way doors are hoisted inside the film’s factory.

Disney previously revealed concept art showing the loading area and has continued to emphasize the massive scale of the attraction.
Construction on the door coaster is ongoing, and Disney has not yet announced its opening date. While portions of Monstropolis will debut in 2027, it’s not yet clear whether the coaster will be among them.
Welcome to Monstropolis at the Glob Theater
One of the newly announced entertainment offerings coming to the land is “Welcome to Monstropolis” at the Glob Theater. The show will introduce human visitors to the monster city while highlighting the ways monsters and humans aren’t all that different.
Mike and Sulley will host the show, although they apparently have slightly different ideas about what the production should entail. Sulley has put together a small, homespun welcome show, while the ever-theatrical Mike has some bigger surprises planned for the audience.

The production will also feature an original song titled “Welcome to Monstropolis,” written by Disney Legend Randy Newman. It’s the first song Newman has composed specifically for a Disney theme park.
Guests will be able to hear the new song when Monstropolis begins welcoming humans in 2027.
Harryhausen’s Restaurant
One of the most recognizable locations from Monsters, Inc. is becoming a real Disney World restaurant.
Harryhausen’s is the restaurant where Mike and Celia’s romantic date goes spectacularly wrong in the original film. In Monstropolis, human guests will finally get the opportunity to dine there themselves.

Disney says Harryhausen’s will offer a menu unlike anything else currently available at Walt Disney World, although the complete menu has not yet been revealed.
The restaurant will also feature a new Audio-Animatronic sushi chef, whose many tentacles will be busy preparing monster-worthy creations. And while sushi will play a role in the restaurant, Disney has confirmed that it won’t be the only thing on the menu.
Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza
Monstropolis is also getting a more casual dining option with Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza.
The restaurant is named after Archie, Fear Tech’s six-legged mascot from Monsters University. After repeatedly being “borrowed” by mischievous Monsters University students, Archie has apparently become a celebrity on both campuses.
Disney describes Archie’s as Monstropolis’ top-rated pizza spot, giving humans a place to grab a slice while exploring the city.
Monsters University Alumni Club
Located next to Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza will be the Monsters University Alumni Club, which will also open its doors to visiting humans.
The club will celebrate the university’s student organizations, fraternities, and sororities, providing plenty of opportunities for Monsters University references and Easter eggs.
Inside, guests will also find the Scarer’s Club, honoring some of Monsters University’s most legendary scarers from years past.
Scareporium
Of course, you’ll need somewhere to pick up a souvenir from your first trip to the monster world.
The Scareporium will serve as one of Monstropolis’ shopping locations, offering merchandise for human tourists visiting the city.
Disney hasn’t revealed what will be sold inside just yet, but we expect plenty of Monsters, Inc.-inspired souvenirs once the shop opens.
What Will It Be Like to Explore Monstropolis?
One of the most interesting things about the new land is how much Disney is focusing on making Monstropolis feel like an actual functioning city.
Guests will explore streets lined with storefronts, businesses, restaurants, entertainment venues, and industries, all designed around the unusual proportions and needs of monsters.
The H.U.M.A.N. Day storyline also provides an explanation for why human guests are suddenly able to walk through a world that was previously hidden from them.
Through its Department of Human Relations, Monstropolis is intentionally opening its doors to human visitors as part of an effort to build a connection between the two worlds.
That means the land itself is part of the story: We’re not simply visiting a recreation of Monstropolis. We’re among the first humans ever officially invited inside.
What’s Opening in Monstropolis in 2027?
Disney hasn’t yet provided a complete list of exactly which experiences will be available when portions of Monstropolis open in 2027.
However, the company has revealed several locations that will be part of the finished land:
- Monsters, Inc. door vault suspended coaster
- “Welcome to Monstropolis” at the Glob Theater
- Harryhausen’s Restaurant
- Archie’s Scare Pig Pizza
- Monsters University Alumni Club
- Scareporium
Disney has specifically said that parts of Monstropolis will open in 2027 while work continues on the door coaster, suggesting the new land could debut in phases.
We’ll continue to update this guide as Disney confirms which locations will open first, provides a timeline for the door coaster, and reveals even more about our first trip to Monstropolis.
