Learn about the MagicBand+ Cost, as well as everything that the piece of technology offers you with this helpful Disney World accessory.

The newest Disney tech has taken the parks by storm: the MagicBand+! Disney announced the next generation of MagicBand in 2021, along with some of its most awesome features. After launching in 2022, this well-loved MagicBand connects guests to the parks in never-before-seen ways – but is it worth making the switch? For those who are on the fence, we’ve compiled all you need to know about MagicBand+ before making the verdict below.

What Is MagicBand+?

MagicBand+ is the evolution of the original MagicBand, which was first released in 2013. MagicBands changed the game when they were launched, acting as a room key, park ticket, and fashion statement all rolled into one – but overall, they were pretty bare bones. MagicBand+ takes everything you love about its predecessor and brings it to the next level. With new designs, easy setup, and all-new features, MagicBand+ immerses you even further into the magic.

What Does MagicBand+ Do?

So, “immersing ourselves into the magic” sounds pretty great, but… what exactly does that mean? Let’s run through the features of MagicBand+:

Park Interactions

MagicBand+ works interactively with different objects hidden in plain sight all over the Disney parks. Not sure which sights are interactive? No worries – your MagicBand+ will vibrate and glow when you pass an opportunity to use it! Simple gestures like a friendly wave will bring previously inanimate objects to life. Those golden character statues you’ve been spotting around the parks aren’t just fun decor. Wave at Bo-Peep and Woody from Toy Story at Hollywood Studios to get a secret peek into their conversation or at Coco’s Miguel in EPCOT to hear his guitar riff!

Fans expect that in-park object interactions will evolve over time, offering fresh and surprising experiences as time goes on.

Immersive Vibrations

As mentioned above, your MagicBand+ actually vibrates! This might not seem like a big deal, but it’s honestly really cool. There’s something about strolling around Magic Kingdom and getting that exciting buzz on your wrist that makes you feel like you’re really ✨in it✨.

Vibrations occur many times throughout your day at the park such as when you are near an interactive area, during night-time spectaculars, when interacting with compatible objects, and any time that you scan your MagicBand+ (park entry, purchases, Lightning Lanes, room entry, etc. It feels about as strong as the vibration of a cell phone, so it will definitely get your attention!

Park Ticket

Just like the original MagicBand, your MagicBand+ will host your park ticket or annual pass information. This includes any Lightning Lane or virtual queue information, meaning that you can scan it at checkpoints at line queues without frantically searching your backpack or stroller bag for that ticket card that you jussst can’t seem to keep track of.

Light Show On Your Wrist

Although simply cosmetic, the light-up feature of the new MagicBand+ is foolishly delightful. Firmly tap your MagicBand+ on the “puck” (center circle) twice to trigger the light sequence on demand, which is uniquely based on which MagicBand+ design you choose. Full disclosure, my partner and I completely abuse this feature – I seriously can’t stop!

The light sequence also occurs frequently while you’re in the parks, including any time you scan it, interact with something inside the park, and of course during Disney’s epic night-time spectaculars! 🎇

Room Key

Your MagicBand+ will also allow you access to your room at Disney Resorts, meaning you won’t have to worry about losing a room key. The new version will work just like your old MagicBand, but just with a little flair.

Payment Method

Just like its predecessor, you can tap your MagicBand+ to credit card readers around the parks and resorts to make purchases with ease!

In-Park Mini-Games

Perhaps the most valuable features of the new MagicBand+ are the mini-games that have been rolled out along with the device itself. These games turn the parks into your own world of adventure, where you can embark on quests or play in a scavenger hunt.

This is especially valuable for those who tend to opt out of rides, come to the parks quite frequently, or simply don’t want to wait in a long line to have fun!

Batuu Bounty Hunters

“Batuu Bounty Hunters” debuted at Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2022 introducing guests to a whole new way to experience the unbelievable park area. Galaxy’s Edge and the Galactic Starcruiser are already mind-blowingly immersive, and having a MagicBand+ is the newest must for Star Wars lovers.

Guests are traveling around Batuu to complete objectives, meet new characters, and earn credits as they take on the life of a galactic bounty hunter – all with the help of your MagicBand+. For those who love the DataPad minigame, this is bound to be a new favorite!

Do You Have to Charge A MagicBand+?

The short answer: yes. MagicBand+ works with Bluetooth technology to make the magic happen, and that takes a lot of juice! Thankfully, your MagicBand+ should last the majority of the day depending on your activity level.

Your battery will do just fine if you’re just waving at a few character statues – but if you’re galavanting around Batuu pursuing a bounty, you’ll see your battery take a hit. I recommend stopping off to grab a bite halfway through your day and allowing your MagicBand+ to recharge while you’re chowing down.

What Happens If My MagicBand+ Battery Runs Out?

Bummer, but don’t worry: MagicBand+ will still operate just as the old generation of MagicBands did (room key, ticket, room charge, etc) if your battery dies! Although you won’t be able to enjoy those new interactive features, you won’t be left high and dry.

Wondering what your battery level is looking like? You can check it on the My Disney Experience app at any time to anticipate charge times or press the button on the back of the MagicBand+ puck. Red means low battery, yellow means medium battery, and green means full battery – simple!

To avoid getting interrupted in the middle of an epic bounty hunt or having the fun run out while your MagicBand+ is lighting up along with a night-time spectacular, I recommend investing in a Fuel Rod if you haven’t already. I have a feeling that portable chargers are about to become MagicBand+ users’ best friends!

Places to Charge Your MagicBand+ in the Parks

For those who haven’t hopped on the portable charger bandwagon, you’ll need to stop off at a charging station or tucked-away outlet to get your MagicBand+ juiced up. Some common areas where you’ll find less obvious outlets are inside restaurants, outside of bathrooms, and in gift shops. Guests Relations offers phone charging for those who really need it, but I’d avoid relying on cast members to charge your MagicBand+.

Some notable charging stations include the Rapunzel bathrooms in Magic Kingdom, where you can find outlets hidden in fake tree stumps near benches, and Star Wars Launch Bay in Hollywood Studios offers outlets near benches as well – perfect for those who have exhausted their battery on Batuu.

How Much Does MagicBand+ Cost?

While the features of the new MagicBands are compelling, it comes at a price. For reference, the original MagicBand cost about $19.99, depending on which design you chose. Complimentary MagicBands were also given to Disney resort guests to use during their stay – an offer that was recently discontinued.

MagicBand+ runs at a higher price, costing guests $35.99 for simple solid color designs and $45.99 for more detailed band designs. Some guests are unhappy with the price point, but I’d argue that for all the features that the ‘bands pack in, it’s well worth it.

This price tag includes a complimentary MagicBand+ charger or you can buy a replacement for just $7.99.

Can You Use Multiple MagicBands?

Guests can use multiple MagicBands and can interchange them as they wish – including cross-generationally. So if you’ve got a trusty MagicBand that’s been seeing you through since 2013, you won’t have to part any time soon!

MagicBand+ Designs

Disney currently offers numerous MagicBand+ designs that speak to a variety of Disney fans. Whether you’re the type to get more excited about a new Marvel movie than a Mickey meet-and-greet or a fresh churro than Rise of the Resistance, there’s a good chance that one of these designs will hit the spot.

Here’s a glimpse at just some of the styles available now:

MagicBand+ Customization

If you’re weighing the pros and cons of your MagicBand+ cost, consider that you can customize your brand new MagicBand+ by changing the light sequences it displays on your puck via the My Disney Experience app to take your personalization to the next level. Each of these designs also features a unique light sequence that corresponds with the style!

For those Annual Passholders or DVC members who don’t want to part with their MagicBand sliders, have no fear – the sliders will still fit on your MagicBand+ when you upgrade.

Where Can I Buy a MagicBand+?

If you’ve been convinced at this point, it’s time to grab a MagicBand+ of your very own! MagicBand+ can be bought all around the parks and beyond. Although you’ll have luck finding MagicBand+ in just about any gift shop around Walt Disney World, I recommend checking out the following shops for the widest selection:

  • Pin Traders – Camera Center in EPCOT
  • Celebrity 5 & 10 in Hollywood Studios
  • The Emporium in Magic Kingdom
  • Discovery Trading Company in Animal Kingdom

Is the MagicBand+ Cost Worth It?

So, what’s the verdict? Is MagicBand+ really worth upgrading? Although I was skeptical before purchasing one of my own, I’ve got to say – I love the new and improved next gen of MagicBands. The features are relatively simple but really user-friendly in a way that doesn’t make you feel like you’re fooling around with yet another piece of frustrating technology. Plus, the vibrations, light sequences, and interactive opportunities really immerse you in the wonder of Disney!

I can confidently say that I think just about anybody would enjoy what the new MagicBand+ has to offer, but I’d especially recommend the upgrade to guests who:

🌟Attend the parks frequently and are looking for a new way to experience the park

🌟Don’t tend to ride many of the attractions or have fear-prone kids who opt out of larger rides and are looking for a way to have fun outside of the typical attractions

🌟Hate spending the day waiting in line queues and would rather play in the parks without the wait

So, the choice is yours – but the MagicBand+ is totally worth it!
