Leave A Legacy returns to EPCOT and it’s more colorful than ever. Here’s what you need to know about the display’s new home.
On Thursday, Feb. 9, Disney announced the return of the Leave A Legacy at EPCOT.
The display used to be housed inside the Walt Disney World theme park, but now guests can explore the memory-filled walls prior to entering the Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.
Let’s talk about the new Leave A Legacy, what it is, where it used to be located, and other details you need to know.
What Is It?
Leave A Legacy began in 1999 and ran through June 2007. The display gave guests the chance to have their pictures taken and then etched onto steel tiles.
These etchings were mounted onto panels and then put on display for guests to enjoy as they walked into the front entrance of EPCOT.
The purpose was to celebrate people from all cultures and represent our global community, similar to the overall theme of EPCOT.

Why Did It Move?
Leave A Legacy moved due to the many transformations coming to EPCOT. Disney announced in February 2019 that one of the changes includes an update to the main entrance, meaning Leave A Legacy had to move.
“As part of the new entry experience, Leave A Legacy photos will be moving into a beautiful setting just outside the park’s gateway,” Disney revealed at the time.
They also noted that the area between the plaza that welcomes guests and Spaceship Earth will feature “new pathways, sweeping green spaces, and a newly reimagined fountain.”
The “reimagined fountain” was recently revealed at EPCOT and is beyond stunning. It sits right in front of Spaceship Earth and even features majestic pylons that make for great photo-taking during the day and at night.
It’s also important to note that the redesign will pay homage to the original park entrance, but with an updated take, all while ensuring to maintain those classic elements.
New Location vs. Old Location
The old Leave A Legacy was located directly in front of Spaceship Earth, as guests entered through the main entrance.
You can find the new panels right outside the park’s gateway. After you go through security, the displays will be located to the right and left, prior to scanning your ticket or MagicBand.
Make sure you keep your eyes peeled, because you don’t want to miss them. They also incorporate “vibrant hues from the park’s new color palette.”
Can You Still Do It?
Unfortunately, the Leave A Legacy display was discontinued in 2007. But, those guests who participated can still find their tiles by using their device to scan a QR code.
There are directions (as you can see above) printed to assist guests. If you need help, you can also visit Guest Relations at EPCOT!
