Inspiring Runner Completes Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon with One Lung

Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon 2018 Winners

First, we would like to congratulate the two winners of this year’s Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon, who both have ties to Tampa, FL! Tyler Wasieleski, who grew up in Tampa, was the winner of the half marathon with a finish time of 1:11:48. Megan Curham, who currently lives in Tampa, was the first female to cross the finish line. She had a finish time of 1:19:59. Congratulations, Tyler and Megan!


Runner Credits Disney with Saving Her Life

Debbie Rogers is a runner from Westchester, NY who credits Walt Disney World with literally saving her life. While running the Walt Disney World Marathon in January, Rogers sustained a foot injury. After the race, she sought medical attention for her foot and instead received news that no one wants to hear. She was diagnosed with lung cancer.

Thankfully, because her foot injury prompted medical attention, doctors caught the cancer early and she was able to undergo treatment and surgery to have the tumor (and part of her right lung) removed. “Had I not trained for the Disney Marathon and not have had a running injury and not have completed the marathon, they would have found the lung cancer too late,’’ Rogers said. “It is very, very rare to find early stage lung cancer!!”

After 10 months of recovery, Rogers was finally healthy enough to run again. So she went back to the place she says saved her life. Check out her inspiring story in this video:
