It’s that time of year again where everything pumpkin—I’m talking muffins and oatmeal to yogurt and actual pumpkins—start popping up everywhere. So, it’s only natural that you’ll want to start filling your house with them!

Plus, what better way to get into the Halloween spirit than carving a pumpkin? Keep scrolling to find out how you can carve your very own Mickey Mouse Jack-o’-lantern at home.

STEP 1: PICK OUT YOUR PUMPKIN

Alright, so this may be one of the most important steps.

When picking out your pumpkin, you want one that will be medium to large-sized and is relatively round.

The most important thing to remember is to pick one with a smooth, flat surface. This will make it so much easier to carve.

STEP 2: REMOVE THE INSIDE

Once you have your perfect pumpkin ready to go, you’ll want to remove all of the seeds and insides so your pumpkin is hollow.

To do this, take a pumpkin carving knife (you can pick up a kit at Target for very inexpensive) and cut a circle around the stem.

Take off the top and use a spoon to begin scooping out the insides.

STEP 3: SKETCH YOUR DESIGN

Unless you’re feeling fearless, I suggest drawing out your design before starting to cut.

We did this on paper, by going off of a photo we found on Google.

To transfer the sketch onto the pumpkin, we used the rolling pumpkin knife that came in the carving kit.

STEP 4: CARVE YOUR MICKEY MOUSE JACK-O’-LANTERN

Can you believe it? It’s the moment you’ve been waiting for: carving time!

Use your pumpkin knife to begin carving the sketch you made on your pumpkin.

Don’t worry if this takes you a little bit of time to do.

I definitely went slow on this part to make sure I didn’t mess up.

I had so much fun with this though! I turned on Halloweentown to really get into the fall spirit and went on carving.

Step 5: SHOW OFF YOUR DESIGN

So you just spent the last hour or two perfecting your design, it’s a no-brainer that you need to show off your pumpkin!

Stick a candle or light inside your pumpkin and let your design glow.
