This year has been an important one, as The Walt Disney Company has celebrated 100 years with the Disney100 celebration. In celebration of the massive milestone, Hong Kong Disneyland has just unveiled a brand new Dream Makers Statue to pay tribute to the legacy of Walt Disney.
Dream Makers Statue Unveiled at Hong Kong Disneyland
Hong Kong Disneyland Resort has unveiled a new Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse Statue in celebration of 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. The new Dream Makers statue depicts Walt and Mickey returning to the park “decades after he had the inspiration for Disneyland.” The park bench they are sitting on is modeled after a Griffith Park bench you’ll find at Disneyland Resort.
The unveiling was officiated by Managing Director Michael Moriarty, along with Ali Rubinstein, Senior Vice President, Executive Global Management of Creative Development at Walt Disney Imagineering, and Edward Ovalle, Archives Manager at Walt Disney Archives. They were joined by senior executives, representatives from non-profits, community members, fans, students, and alumni from Disney Imaginations Hong Kong and local youth program Project Melo, and Disney Imagineering Hong Kong.
Along with the statue, there are two plaques beside it. On the left, you’ll see an open sketchbook, symbolizing Disney’s legacy thus far. On the right is a sketchbook that hasn’t been opened yet, symbolizing Disney’s plans for the future and the unknown.
Moriarty shared, “Walt’s impact can be felt throughout our organization. His spirit of innovation and ability to think outside the box inspire and encourage me and our leadership team every day. We’re always coming up with new ways to surprise and delight guests, making each visit more memorable than the last.”
New 100th-Anniversary Food and Merchandise at Hong Kong Disneyland
At Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel, Walt’s Cafe and Grand Salon are serving Walt’s favorite foods and themed dishes as part of “Eat like Walt Disney” through late November. The menu is inspired by memories of Walt’s impact on the world of entertainment and his legacy. Throughout Hong Kong Disneyland, you can also purchase Dream Makers-themed merchandise, including a figurine to celebrate the new statue.
Additionally, there will be a new Disney PhotoPass opportunity allowing guests to take photos with the Dream Makers Statue. Guests can purchase their photos with a special Dream Makers-themed photo to take home.
