Hey Disney! at Walt Disney World Hotels: A Complete Guide

by | Feb 29, 2024 | Walt Disney World Resorts, WDW Blog

Your complete guide to Hey Disney!, which is an interactive Amazon companion you’ll find at Disney World Resort hotels.

In 2021, Disney first announced that they would be introducing a new service to guests at Disney World Resort hotels called Hey Disney! The service is a collaboration between Amazon’s Alexa and Disney, providing a voice assistant built on Alexa technology that allows guests staying in Disney World Resort hotels to ask park-related questions, get recommendations, or even order hotel amenities like room service or extra towels. In this guide, we’ll be sharing everything you need to know about the service, both in Disney World and at home.

Hey Disney! Service at Disney World

In select Disney World Resort hotel rooms, you may notice an Amazon Echo device with Mickey Ears — this is your Hey Disney! assistant ready for duty. Simply use the term “Hey Disney!” and you can activate the service throughout your use. It’s a complimentary and optional guest perk that can help you get to know your hotel, Disney World at large, and also provide a magical companion for guests to use.

How It Works

It’s important to note that Hey Disney! is an option, and thus does not have to be used or activated by guests. If you would like to use the device, simply say, “Hey, Disney!” or tap, “Hey, Disney, start the magic!” and you can speak with the virtual assistant to order select room items and ask questions about Walt Disney World.

Throughout your stay, continue using the request “Hey Disney” and then speak with any questions or requests. You can ask the device to tell you jokes, play stories, or even challenge you to Disney trivia. You also can have interactive character experiences with select characters that you can select.

How to Turn Off Hey Disney!

If you’d rather not use the device, there’s an option for that! Simply press the ⊘ button on top of your device and it will mute it. To unmute it, just press it again so that it’s no longer red.

Frequently Asked Questions About the Service

Want to know more about the service? We’re answering some of the most frequently asked questions about the service, which is available in select Disney World Resort hotel rooms now.

When is the device listening?

When the device hears someone has said “Hey Disney” or “Alexa” it will begin listening for your request. Touching certain features on the device’s screen will also wake the device and cause it to listen to your request. If you’d like to mute your device, simply turn the microphone off by pushing the button on the top of the device. Once that is red, it will indicate your device is muted.

How does it work?

To “wake” the device, use the touch screen, or say the wake words. Just follow this up with your requests for the hotel, or to use any of the interactive features of the device.

Do I have to use the device in my room?

You don’t need to use the in-room device! You can choose to mute the device at any time by pressing the mute button on top. This will cause the device to no longer listen in for any wake words or requests.

Using the Service at Home

Along with in-room devices at Disney World Resort hotels, Hey Disney is also available for customers at home. Amazon customers with supported Echo devices can purchase the service as an annual subscription in the Alexa Skills Store for use on their supported Echo devices at home. It’s also included as part of a subscription to Amazon Kids+.

While you obviously won’t be able to take advantage of hotel amenities at home (we wish!), you can use interactive services like Disney trivia, Disney storytelling, and more with this service.
