Last night, Disney previewed EPCOT’s new Harmonious nighttime spectacular two nights before the official launch on the 50th anniversary of Walt Disney World. The whole thing was livestreamed so that anyone with an internet connection could tag along.
After the show, guests got to experience the new Spaceship Earth lights for the very first time, as part of the new Beacons of Magic at all four WDW parks.
We were on the ground, watching Harmonious live, to catch photos and, quite frankly, all the feels. Check out our Harmonious review and photos below.
While I couldn’t be at the debut of Harmonious in person, I did get to watch online. And while I was BLOWN AWAY, I really wanted the input of folks who were there for the nighttime spectacular in person.
Luckily, Stephanie and Danny Shuster, CEO and creative director of WDW Magazine, respectively, shared their thoughts on this beautiful new fireworks show at EPCOT.
“Harmonious is the best thing I’ve ever seen out of a nighttime show at Disney World, honestly,” Steph shared. “It’s only second to my love of Disneyland’s Dreams Come True,” the E ticket in the sky fireworks spectacular that rang in Disneyland’s own 50th anniversary in 2005.
That’s some high praise from the CEO of WDW Magazine.
So what did Steph like so much about Harmonious? “It felt like it took the best parts of Fantasmic!, IllumiNations, and Happily Ever After—and plussed it.”
“Plus it,” for those who don’t know, was Walt’s favorite expression for making something better.
“The media all seemed to really love it,” Steph continued. “Every time one of the clips ended, people would shout, ‘EPCOOOOOT!’ in a really celebratory way.”
“There’s water, there are fountains, there are fireworks, there are firework canons, there are projections, there are LED screens,” Steph exclaimed, and I’m half convinced her list was never-ending, but Danny piped in at that moment.
“Tim, there are laser projections in the sky that are really cool!” he shouted with some pure childlike wonder. He was telling me through audio only, but I could hear the smile in his voice.
Danny added, “It moves too. The float barges are dynamic and move around. Really impressive.”
But my favorite part of Steph’s and Danny’s review of Harmonious? The message of unity that they found to be so profound.
“I started crying when they began singing in other languages,” Steph admitted. “I love that they incorporated stories that matched the different World Showcase pavilions, but they’re Disney stories.”
And Steph’s final words to close out her Harmonious review: “Just amazing. Absolutely touched my heart.”
During the live show, Danny was snapping plenty of beautiful photographs. Here are some of our favorite Harmonious photos from the night:
