Here’s How We Spent the Getaway Package on Castaway Cay

by | Nov 26, 2019 | Castaway Cay, Disney Cruise Line

A visit to Castaway Cay is one of the many special things that sets Disney Cruise Line apart from other ocean liners.  This private island in the Bahamas is the perfect island paradise and is ready to meet all your needs. Whether you want to kick back in a hammock and get some sun, or hit the beach with awesome water activities, Castaway Cay has got everything you need for a fun day in the sun!

We recently visited Castaway Cay and Disney kindly set us up with the Getaway Package, an all-in-one pass for some of the island’s most popular amenities.  While you can book each of these adventures independently, the Getaway Package is so easy and convenient, we’d definitely recommend it for your next trip ashore.

What The Getaway Package Includes

The Getaway Package offers a discounted rate on all three of these rentals:

  • Snorkel equipment for the day
  • A float or inner-tube rental for the day
  • A bicycle rental for one hour

Which is just enough to fill the day with activities and allow you enough time on the island to explore other cost-free options outside the package, like beachside yoga, character greetings, volleyball, pool, , giant chess, basketball, and more.

A Bike Ride for Two

We hit the ground running, or biking I should say, with a leisurely ride around Castaway Cay. You can pick up your rental bike at Pelican Point, but there is also a smaller location at Serenity Bay (the adults-only beach on the island).

Once you have a bike, you’re free to explore the paved bike paths around the island. We absolutely loved the ride out to Observation tower, the perfect spot to get a view of the whole island and a great look at your ship.  I also appreciated that there were bikes available with training wheels for younger guests still learning and adult bikes with additional child seats for really little ones.

Breaking for Beachside Yoga

After biking, we decided to get our zen on with a little beachside yoga. This activity is free of charge and not part of the Getaway Package but it is only open to guests 18 and up since it takes place at the adults-only side of the island, Serenity Bay.

Alice, our friendly instructor, found a shady spot under some coconut trees and guided us through a very gentle yoga practice. While not an absolute beginner’s class, Alice was very good at adjusting the poses and offering modifications for anyone that needed them.  If you weren’t already feeling peaceful and tranquil, some beachside yoga will have you relaxed in no time.

Snorkeling and Floating in the Sea

At this point in the day, we realized we had been having so much fun that we hadn’t even taken a dip in the ocean yet!  So we made a beeline to Flippers and Floats at Pelican Point to pick up our water floats. You have your choice of an inner-tube or a floating mattress, so we grabbed one of the each and hit the beach!

Believe it or not, this was actually my very first time swimming in the ocean and bobbing around the beautiful turquoise waters was an absolute delight. What I loved about the float rental is that you can hang onto the floats for the whole day, so take your time and enjoy floating in the crystal clear waters – just don’t forget that sunscreen!

Doesn’t this look AWESOME? You could be floating around Castaway Cay before you know it!  Get in touch with our partners at Destinations to Travel today for a free quote and find out how you could be sailing with Disney Cruise Line in 2020 and beyond!

Our last activity was my favorite one of the day — we headed back to Flippers and Floats and picked up our snorkeling gear! Disney has everything you need and sizes available for the whole family. After putting on our very fashionable vests, fins, and goggles we gracefully flopped our way to the water and began exploring the undersea world.

Disney has helpfully designated a snorkeling lagoon and if you follow the buoys on the horseshoe-shaped circuit, you’ll discover a wide range of sunken treasures and tropical fish. Make sure you’re feeling energetic, snorkeling is hard work, but the incredible views underwater, the schools of tropical fish and the hidden, sunken Mickeys make it worth all the effort.

We had so much fun on our adventure filled day at Castaway Cay. The island has so much to offer and we can’t wait for our next chance to visit!

After partaking in so many of the crazy activities we managed to find a quiet spot in the shade to chill out in a hammock while listening to the waves.  The perfect end to a perfect day in paradise!

The Getaway Package is $46.00 for adults (10 and up), and $26.00 for kids 9 and under. More info from Disney Cruise Line. You can book it during online check-in 75 days prior to cruising, or visit the Port Adventures desk onboard the ship.

Thanks to Disney for inviting us on a #DisneyCruise this month!  We sailed on the Disney Dream from November 18th to 22nd, 2019 on a Very Merrytime Cruise.  Opinions here are our own.  #DisneyCruiseLife
