Wanna hang out with the Guardians of the Galaxy at EPCOT? You can with these brand new PhotoPass Magic Shots.
Disney has released new PhotoPass Magic Shots to go along with Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and we got them all!
During a hosted Media preview for the newest Disney attraction we got the chance to speak with Matt, Lead of the Product Design Team at Disney PhotoPass who told us about the latest updates plus the special enhancements the PhotoPass team is using to make these pics out of this world.
A Chilling Update
Before we blast off with the Guardians details, we need to use a jump point to pop over to Magic Kingdom for some new enhancements that have just debuted on the fan favorite Haunted Mansion. The existing attraction capture (that’s the official Disney lingo for the on-ride photos we all know and love) already features the hitchhiking ghosts but the PhotoPass team decided they wanted to plus it. Using new technology, the Photopass system can intelligently determine how many guests are sitting in each doombuggy and where they are positioned so they can add new ghostly enhancements right into the photo. Check out this before and after shot to see the difference.
On the left is what the camera sees as you pass by in your doombuggy. In the middle is the old version of your attraction capture and on the right is the newly enhanced Haunted Mansion attraction capture. Notice how the Hitchhiking ghosts are in the scene with you?! Those ghosts are getting closer and closer to actually following us home.
Cosmic Captures: The Guardians of the Galaxy at EPCOT
Jumping back to EPCOT and the Wonders of Xandar pavilion, we learned a bit more about the technology required for snapping perfect ride photos. Check out our ride cam video to see this in action, but one of the coolest features of the Omni Coaster system utilized by Guardians is the ability to individually rotate each ride vehicle to enhance your viewing experience. Disney Photopass developed a special camera capture system that moves in sync with the rotation of the ride vehicle to make sure they are getting the best possible photo as you race through the cosmos.
The fun doesn’t end there, outside the attractions you’ll find PhotoPass photographers with a whole mixtape of fresh Magic Shots to enjoy. Since Guardians is housed in the new Wonders of Xandar building, the first (outer) world showcase pavilion, it seemed fitting to add this “passport” photo to the mix.
There’s also the Jump Point photo, complete with Nova Corps Starblaster ship.
One featuring Groot because we are all Groot.
And of course some awesome shots showcasing the iconic Starblaster ship in front of the attraction (our photos were taken during a media preview, so there is some additional scaffolding and lights that will not be present in future photos).
Where To Find These Magic Shots
Look for PhotoPass photographers near the Starblaster ship in World Discovery for these new Guardians themed photos. Also try and find a photographer in the evening since both the Starblaster and Spaceship Earth are visible in your photo and both look even better with their nighttime lighting enhancements.
Thanks to Disney for hosting us on a 2-night The Celebration Continues: Even More Magic Media Event where we got to conduct interviews, learn about exciting updates made for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary, stay at Gran Destino Tower, and experience new entertainment offerings. #SaveTheGalaxyTime #CosmicRewind #DisneyWorld50
