Your full guide to the entertainment, food, and more to experience at the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival with kids.
Waking up excited (and way before my alarm) on any day of my Walt Disney World vacations is a childhood memory I will always remember. No matter what park we were visiting that day, the anticipated magic was enough to get me popping out of my hotel room bed much earlier than my parents probably would have liked. Admittedly, that uncontrollable, almost unbearable childhood excitement was always a bit less bright on the day I knew my family was destined for EPCOT. Just thinking about the adults spending countless hours exploring Word Showcase while I waited for what seemed like forever until the next ride was never the most anticipated day of my Disney World vacation.
Luckily, EPCOT has not only added several fun and exciting things for kids to look forward to as they traverse the World Showcase since my childhood days, but the EPCOT Food and Wine Festival itself boasts even more fun offerings for youngsters than ever before.
Navigating the 2023 Food and Wine Festival with Kids
Let’s dive into how you can navigate the 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival to ensure that both you and your kids will want to visit EPCOT on each and every trip!
Remy’s Hide and Squeak Scavenger Hunt
While the adults are taking their time enjoying the food and beverages from the various World Showcase Pavilions, offer up a fun challenge to keep your kids engaged! Remy’s Hide and Squeak Scavenger Hunt is available for purchase at various merchandise locations around EPCOT.
The premise of the game is simple: Remy (the host of the Food and Wine Festival) is hidden in statue form around the various Pavilions, waiting to be found! Once you find him in each designated World Showcase Pavilion, use the correlating sticker on your map to indicate that you’ve spotted him. Encourage your kids to look everywhere- this year I’ve spotted several Remy statues on rooftops!
The best part of Hide and Squeak Scavenger Hunt? There are prizes to choose from once you’ve completed the hunt! Once they’ve filled their maps with stickers, kids can choose from one of four Disney-themed insulated lunch totes! Designs featuring Chef Mickey, Remy, Figment, and The Madrigal Family round out the lunch tote offerings.
Kid-Friendly Festival Food
Although hard to imagine now as an adult, there was a time when EPCOT was NOT my favorite park. One thing I did always look forward to though, was EPCOT’s incredible food offerings, even as a child! The giant Bavarian pretzel from Germany, pizza from Via Napoli, the mac and cheese from Chefs de France, and just about anything from Karamel Kuche helped fuel my EPCOT days.
While all those kid-friendly staples are still available to this day, The Food and Wine Festival offers even more kid-friendly options, in kid-friendly portion sizes! Some of my favorite returning kid-friendly food items from this year’s Festival are the Brazilian cheese bread, the French fry flight, focaccia ripinia (the Italian way to say ‘meatball sub’), and stone-baked Moroccan bread!
You simply can’t miss a stop at Swirled Showcase when you’ve got youngsters in tow. This brand-new booth is offering up several flavors of soft-serve ice cream in perfect portions for kiddos. No matter if you’re three or 300 years old, the Nitro Mickey Cake Pop is my personal favorite item from this year’s festival…and it’s as kid-friendly as they come!
Chocolate cake has been formed into a Mickey shape, before being dunked in melted milk chocolate, and finally flash-frozen in liquid nitrogen. The dessert is not only adorable but incredibly rich and flavorful and perfect for any chocolate lovers!
The Pickle Milkshake and Muppets Taste Labs
For the first time, scientific masterminds Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker have taken over the Odyssey building for the duration of the Food and Wine Festival. Here, they’ve set up a taste lab headquarters, where they’ve been busy experimenting with different flavor profiles and combinations. The pickle milkshake is by far the most coveted (and polarizing) menu item at this year’s Festival. The green-colored, subtly dill-flavored shake has garnered a lot of attention, and it’s an item that every kid I know has just HAD to try for themselves.
While they sip their shake and form their opinions, take your kiddos into the sitting area in the Odyssey, where Dr. Bunsen Honeydew and Beaker appear periodically on screens, giving you a behind the ‘screen’ look at how they’ve created items like the pickle milkshake!
Emile’s Fromage Montage
Most children I know absolutely love cheese. My little cousins’ entire diet consists of a cheese-based smorgasbord in the forms of grilled cheese sandwiches, bowls of mac and cheese, soft pretzels with cheese, and mozzarella sticks. If your child loves cheese too, Emile’s Formage Montage is a great way to keep them engaged during your EPCOT day…and promises a sweet surprise upon completion!
Flip to the back of your EPCOT Festival passport, where you’ll find eligible cheese-based food items that make up Emile’s Formage Montage. Simply choose 5 of the eligible Formage Montage items, and receive stamps in your booklet for each cheesy delight that you’ve purchased. At the end of your queso quest, redeem your stamped passport for a surprise (complimentary) frozen dessert!
TIP: Encourage your kids to choose which cheese items you’ll order, and have them ask the Cast Members at each food kiosk for their stamp to fully integrate them into this experience!
No matter how you choose to spend your day at the 2023 EPCOT Food and Wine Festival, these simple and fun tips can help keep your children not only satisfied, but excited and engaged as you leisurely eat and drink your way through EPCOT!
