Earl of Sandwich Returns to Disneyland Resort – Yes, Again!

by | Feb 1, 2023 | Disneyland Parks, DLR News, Downtown Disney

Everyone’s favorite sandwich shop is opening its doors at the Downtown Disney District, taking over the spot vacated by La Brea Bakery.

If you’ve been missing Earl of Sandwich at Disneyland Resort, good news: Starting February 1, 2023, the Earl is back! Anyone who’s looking for a quick bite to eat (or even a delicious Holiday Turkey sandwich for the drive home) can now get one before hopping on a tram back to the Mickey and Friends and Pixar Pals parking structures.

You’ll be able to pop by this quick service restaurant right at the entrance of the Downtown Disney District, in the building that the now-shuttered La Brea Bakery once called home. The sudden closure of La Brea Bakery in January 2023 left a sizable gap at Disneyland, but fan-favorite Earl of Sandwich is stepping in – temporarily, that is – to satisfy your sandwich cravings.

Earl of Sandwich Reopens in a Temporary Location at Downtown Disney

Frequent Disneyland Resort visitors know that Earl of Sandwich has had quite the tumultuous history within the Downtown Disney District. This eatery, which first appeared in Anaheim in 2021, hasn’t just closed once, but twice in the past five years – and it’s no stranger to moving locations.

Back in 2018, Earl of Sandwich closed for the first time to make way for a huge Downtown Disney project. The original plan, which included a brand-new hotel, fell through just a short time after the restaurant closed its doors. So, Disney brought Earl of Sandwich back that very same year, and the quick service spot reopened in its original location near the Disneyland Hotel.

Then, in January 2022, it was announced that Earl of Sandwich would close its doors again. This time, the restaurant’s building was going to be demolished to make way for a revamped Downtown Disney District (and the project actually got underway!) It was announced that Earl of Sandwich would return as a pop-up or food truck, with a potential future permanent spot to be determined.

But, after the unexpected close of La Brea Bakery in January 2023, Earl of Sandwich marked its second return – and third opening! – at Downtown Disney. The restaurant is taking over the bakery’s spot temporarily, serving Guests with grab-and-go options or table service within the Earl of Sandwich Tavern.

Catch Earl of Sandwich Serving Up Food Starting at 8AM Daily

With a new temporary home and a menu full of fresh additions (don’t miss the Spicy BBQ Brisket Sandwich while it’s here!), Earl of Sandwich will take full advantage of its space and welcome guests starting at 8 AM daily on February 3, 2023.

In addition to grab-and-go meals, you’ll be able to order table service meals as part of the new Earl of Sandwich Tavern, which will operate as a full-service restaurant with a seated breakfast, lunch, and dinner, plus a full bar. The Tavern will debut in just a few weeks – the exact opening date is still to be determined.

You’ll want to check out this new-but-familiar addition to Disneyland’s Downtown Disney District while you can! It was announced at D23 that Porto’s Bakery would be coming in 2023, and the plan is for this new restaurant to permanently open in the old La Brea Bakery’s space.
