.If you’re looking for a beachside Disney vacation, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort offers a tranquil retreat in South Carolina.
Approximately five hours from Walt Disney World, you’ll find one of Disney’s three Disney Vacation Club beachside retreats, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort—full of southern hospitality and charm and perfect for a peaceful vacation getaway. After a recent stay, I’m sharing my thoughts on the South Carolina DVC location!

Island Vibes and a Rich History

The resort is situated in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, located just 20 miles northeast of another popular vacation destination, Savannah, Georgia. The island, which prides itself on its South Carolina low-country lifestyle, features 12 miles of beachfront on the Atlantic Ocean and plenty of spots to enjoy the beach, shop, eat, and sip your favorite beverage.
I found the atmosphere to be a relaxing place to relax and unwind—definitely, a place to enjoy some island vibes.

The island itself also has an interesting history. Named after Captain William Hilton, who first spotted the island, its story starts with the Native Americans. Eventually, the harbor town became a hub for the Sea Island Cotton trade and an important base during the Civil War.
Today, the island is known for its eco-friendly development, which has led to a dense amount of tree cover and the unique, earthy styling of the buildings that call it home.
Tranquil Accommodations

In line with the island vibes of the surrounding area, the accommodations are a relaxing retreat among the trees. Here, you’ll find deluxe studios, as well as one, two, and three-bedroom villas—all modeled to look like a 1940s low-country hunting and fishing lodge.

My family stayed in the three-bedroom grand villa, which offered beautiful views of the surrounding woodlands and plenty of space for our party of nine (the accommodation sleeps up to 12).

The villa also featured all the Disney Vacation Club accommodations my family has come to love and depend on, as well as a luxurious whirlpool tub that my 5-year-old daughter was a major fan of.

Restful Recreations

If you’re looking for restful recreation, there’s plenty to do at this resort. Namely, the resort is located near the South Carolina shore. Although it would be a bit of a hike to walk from your room to the beach, Disney does offer shuttles, and beach parking is available to get to the nearby beach.
Although, as a Florida resident who has had the opportunity to explore many beaches of the Atlantic and Gulf Coast, I have to say the beach wasn’t the most pristine shore I’ve seen. As a plus, though, we did see some Dolphins on the horizon!

The resort also features two pool areas. There are the Big Dipper and Little Dipper pools in the main part of the resort (my daughter LOVED the Water Tower Slide). If you want to enjoy a swim near the beach but not in the ocean, you can take advantage of Disney’s Beach House and Beach House Pool, which offers a reprieve from the waves and a different kind of salt (on the rim!).

You can also enjoy the Community Hall for crafts and games, an evening Campfire, the Live Oak Lodge, which features a billiards table, tennis and basketball courts, areas to play bocce ball and horseshoes, and recreational rentals for those who like more active vacationing. (My family was happy to relax poolside with a beachy cocktail in hand.) My daughter’s personal favorite activity was relaxing in one of the many hammocks located through the resort.

Is Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort Worth the Trip?

Overall, my family really enjoyed our trip, from playing games in the large living room to hopping from the beach to the pool. While Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is my personal favorite East Coast beach destination, Disney’s Hilton Head Island Resort is absolutely worth checking out for a relaxing beach vacation.
