Planning a Walt Disney World vacation? We’re sharing the current Disney World refurbishment schedule for 2026 and beyond, including ride closures, hotel construction, water park refurbishments, and transportation interruptions.
Walt Disney World is constantly changing. Attractions periodically close for routine maintenance, hotel rooms receive updates, and entirely new lands sometimes require existing areas to shut down for years at a time.
While this work helps keep the resort looking its best, it can also affect your vacation plans. Below, you’ll find the current Disney World refurbishment calendar, including confirmed closure and reopening dates whenever Disney has announced them.
Keep in mind that refurbishment schedules can change. Disney may extend, shorten, or cancel planned work, and attractions can also experience unplanned downtime. Check the official Walt Disney World calendar and the My Disney Experience app shortly before your visit.

Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress
Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress closed on July 6, 2026, for an extensive refurbishment and reimagining. When the attraction reopens in late spring 2027, it will feature refreshed scenes, updated Audio-Animatronics, and a new Walt Disney Audio-Animatronic figure.
Disney has not announced a specific reopening date beyond late spring 2027.

Walt Disney World Railroad
The Walt Disney World Railroad will temporarily close beginning September 28, 2026, for routine refurbishment. Disney currently expects the attraction to reopen in November 2026.
Before the closure, the railroad has been operating a modified shuttle route between the Main Street, U.S.A. and Fantasyland stations because of construction in Frontierland.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will temporarily close for routine refurbishment beginning November 2, 2026. The attraction is expected to reopen sometime in December 2026, although Disney has not announced an exact date.
Piston Peak National Park Construction
Construction continues on Piston Peak National Park, the new Cars-themed area being built in Frontierland. Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat permanently closed in July 2025 to make way for the project.
The new area will include two attractions: Cars Ridge Run Rally, an off-road adventure through the mountains, and Miss Fritter’s Daredevil Spin-Along, a family-friendly demolition derby experience.
Disney has not yet announced an opening date.
Disney Villains Land
Disney is also developing a new land inspired by Disney Villains beyond Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. The project remains in development, and Disney has not announced a construction timeline or opening date.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios Refurbishments and Closures
- The Magic of Disney Animation: Opening September 14, 2026

The Magic of Disney Animation
The Magic of Disney Animation will officially open on September 14, 2026, inside the former Star Wars: Launch Bay building.
The attraction is part of the new Walt Disney Studios area, which replaced Animation Courtyard. Other portions of the reimagined area—including Disney Jr. Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Live! and The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure—are already open.
Monsters, Inc. Land
Muppets Courtyard permanently closed in 2025 to make way for a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land. The area will feature the first suspended roller coaster at a Disney park, inspired by the famous door-vault sequence from the film.
Construction is underway, with parts of the land set to open in 2027.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Refurbishments and Closures
- Pueblo Esperanza – Tropical Americas: Construction underway; opening in 2027
- Expedition Everest: Future refurbishment announced; closure dates TBA

Tropical Americas
Disney’s Animal Kingdom is transforming the former DinoLand U.S.A. area into Pueblo Esperanza, the new Tropical Americas land. DinoLand U.S.A., including DINOSAUR, is now permanently closed, and the new land is scheduled to open in 2027.
Tropical Americas will include:
- A new Encanto attraction set inside the Madrigal family’s magical casita
- A completely original Indiana Jones adventure inside a mysterious Maya temple
- El Carrusel de los Animalitos, featuring 22 carved animals
- A Maya-inspired children’s play area
- New dining, shopping, character, and entertainment experiences
The land will draw inspiration from Central America, northern South America, and parts of Mexico.
Expedition Everest
Disney announced plans to bring the Yeti inside Expedition Everest back to life. However, the company has not revealed when the attraction will close, how long the work will take, or when the updated Yeti will debut.
Until Disney announces a closure date, Expedition Everest remains open to guests.
EPCOT Refurbishments and Closures
- No major ride refurbishments are currently scheduled
EPCOT does not currently have any major ride refurbishments announced.
Soarin’ Across America debuted on May 26, 2026, replacing Soarin’ Around the World as part of the United States’ 250th-anniversary celebration. Because the new film is already open, it no longer needs to be included as an active refurbishment.
Water Park Refurbishments and Closures
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon: Closing September 9, 2026; reopening date TBA
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach: Open
Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon will temporarily close beginning September 9, 2026. Disney has not yet announced when the water park will reopen.
Blizzard Beach will remain open during Typhoon Lagoon’s closure. Disney frequently rotates the operations of its two water parks so that one can undergo seasonal maintenance while the other remains available.
Always check Disney’s calendar before visiting, as water park operating dates and hours are particularly susceptible to seasonal and weather-related changes.
