Can You Enjoy a Disney Cruise as an Adult?

by | Apr 10, 2023 | Castaway Cay, Castaway Club, Cruise Itineraries, Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Line may have plenty of activities and entertainment for the kids, but that doesn’t mean that adults can enjoy themselves as well! We’re sharing a guide to the adults-exclusive entertainment and options onboard the Disney Cruise Line ships!

When people think “Disney,” they often associate it with families or young children — but that is not always exclusively the case. I have been on five Disney Cruises, sailing aboard the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, and the Disney Wish as a 20-something-year-old without any kids or young children in my family. There are various 18+ exclusive activities on Disney Cruise Line ships, as well as adults-only areas both on board and at Castaway Cay – Disney’s private island. If you are debating on sailing aboard Disney Cruise Line as an adult or as an adult couple with no kids, here are all the reasons why I think it’s worth it!

Disney Cruise Adult-Exclusive Activities

Disney Cruise Line is filled with various activities to keep families entertained all day long – especially during “at sea” days. People of all ages can attend trivia, karaoke, animation classes, scavenger hunts, and more, but Disney also offers activities that are exclusive for those 18 years or older.

On my most recent Disney Cruise, my husband and I attended various adults-only activities, including 80’s and 90’s music trivia, sports trivia, a cooking seminar, and even a silent DJ party! Although adults can attend the activities for all ages, going to the 18+ events make for a more relaxed time.

Disney Cruise Line Adults-Only Areas

In addition to 18+ activities on board Disney Cruise Line, there is also an “adults only” section on each Disney ship. Not only are there multiple bars within this area, but there are also pools, hot tubs, and a coffee shop! Disney Cruise Line Cast Members walk around the adults-only area, asking Guests if there are any drinks they would like; this way you don’t even have to get up out of the pool or off of your lounger chair to refill.

Cast Members are also walking around to ensure Guests under the age of 18 are not in this area, and if they are, they will escort them out, making this section extremely quiet, relaxing, and intimate. And after dinner, most of the lounges aboard Disney Cruise Line turn into adults-only nightclubs, which feature delicious cocktails, special entertainment such as comedians and magicians, and dancing.

Disney Cruise Adults-Only Dining Options

When sailing on Disney Cruise Line, Guests will experience a rotational-dining, allowing families to have the opportunity to enjoy each of the three-themed dining venues while on board. However, for those adults longing for a more intimate or elegant experience, they can book dinner at one of the adults-only restaurants on board.

Remy, for example, is an adults-only restaurant located on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy and offers an elegant dining experience featuring fine French-inspired cuisine.

If you are sailing on the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy, the Disney Magic, or the Disney Wonder, Guests have the option to dine at Palo – a northern Italian-themed restaurant for adults-only.

And on Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Wish, Guests will be awed by Palo Steakhouse, a restaurant inspired by Cogsworth from Disney’s animated movie, “Beauty and the Beast”. Palo Steakhouse is an adult-exclusive restaurant offering a blend of Italian fare and modern steakhouse dining.

All three of these restaurants require reservations and are not included with the price of your Disney Cruise.

Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay

Whether you are an adult couple wanting to enjoy the beach without other children running around, or you are sailing onboard with your own children and just wanting to take advantage of the kid’s club offering to enjoy some alone time, Serenity Bay is the place to visit.

This adults-only beach is part of Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay, and offers beautiful views of the crystal clear water, perfect white sand, and, most importantly, peace and quiet.

I was never a beach person until I experienced Serenity Bay at Castaway Cay and this changed my entire perspective. In fact, I now refer to Serenity Bay as my “home away from home”. Every single time I step foot onto this beach, I never want to leave.

Senses Spa

If you are looking for some relaxation and pampering while on vacation, make sure to visit Senses Spa. From high-end salon services to one-of–kind spa treatments, Senses Spa offers Guests a wide variety of options, allowing adults to relax in peace all while taking in a beautiful view of the ocean.

The costs of all services at Senses Spa are not included with the price of your cruise, but if you are looking to treat yourself, it is well worth the extra cost.

So, Are Disney Cruises Worth It for Adults?

As a Gold Castaway Club Member who has been on five cruises as an adult – with no kids – I would highly recommend a Disney Cruise to any adult wishing to get away. From adults-only sections aboard each Disney ship to the adults-only section at Disney’s Castaway Cay, there is plenty to see and do aboard Disney Cruise Line, even if you do not have children. Disney is not just for kids – it’s for everyone.
