Disney Cruise Line is growing to a fleet of 13 ships, including the upcoming Disney Believe and three vessels belonging to an entirely new class. Here’s everything we know about the massive expansion.

Disney Cruise Line’s massive fleet expansion is continuing to take shape, and we’re getting our first glimpse at what comes after the Wish class.

Originally announced during D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event in 2024, Disney’s expansion plans will eventually grow the fleet to 13 ships. Since then, the Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Adventure have all entered service, Disney has revealed the Disney Believe, and we’re now getting our first look at an entirely new class of Disney cruise ships.

At D23 2026, Disney confirmed that three ships belonging to this new class are on the way, beginning in 2029 — and their smaller size could open up entirely new destinations for Disney Cruise Line.

Disney Cruise Line’s Fleet Will Grow to 13 Ships

Disney Cruise Line currently operates eight ships:

• Disney Magic
• Disney Wonder
• Disney Dream
• Disney Fantasy
• Disney Wish
• Disney Treasure
• Disney Destiny
• Disney Adventure

Five more ships are on the way.

First will be the Disney Believe, Disney’s fourth Wish-class ship, which is scheduled to set sail in late 2027.

That will be followed by three ships belonging to an entirely new class, beginning in 2029. Disney is also working with Oriental Land Company on another Wish-class ship that will bring Disney cruise vacations to Japan.

Together, these additions will eventually bring Disney Cruise Line’s fleet to 13 ships.

Disney Believe Will Set Sail in Late 2027

The next ship joining Disney Cruise Line will be the Disney Believe, which will become the ninth ship in the fleet when it begins sailing in late 2027.

The Disney Believe will be the fourth Wish-class ship, joining the Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, and Disney Destiny. Like its sister ships, it will share the overall design and scale of the Wish class while introducing its own storytelling and themed experiences.

Disney has described the ship as celebrating belief in magic, family, nature, and yourself, with stories represented onboard including Moana, Encanto, Frozen, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and The Little Mermaid.

Disney has also revealed that the ship’s Grand Hall will be inspired by Moana, while Woody and Buzz Lightyear will appear on its stern and Tinker Bell will be incorporated into the artwork on its bow.

A Brand-New Class of Disney Cruise Ships Will Debut in 2029

Once the Disney Believe joins the fleet, Disney Cruise Line will turn its attention to something completely new.

At D23 2026, Disney shared the first-ever preview of a new class of ships, confirming that three vessels will be part of the next generation of the Disney Cruise Line fleet.

The first ship in the new class is expected to debut in 2029.

Disney hasn’t revealed the ships’ names, themes, or specific onboard experiences yet, but we do know one particularly important detail: They’ll be smaller than Disney’s newest ships.

How Big Will Disney Cruise Line’s New Ships Be?

Disney says its next class of ships will fall between its classic vessels and newer ships in size.

In other words, they’ll be larger than the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder but smaller than the Disney Wish and its sister ships.

Disney previously shared that the new class is expected to accommodate approximately 3,000 guests, compared with approximately 4,000 aboard the Wish-class ships.

That difference isn’t simply about creating a more intimate onboard experience. The smaller size could significantly expand where Disney Cruise Line is able to sail.

During D23, Disney explained that the ships’ size will create opportunities to visit new destinations and reach new audiences around the world. Smaller ships can access certain ports and destinations that may not be able to accommodate vessels the size of the Disney Wish.

As Disney Cruise Line continues expanding internationally, that flexibility could become particularly important.

First Look at Disney Cruise Line’s New Ship Class

D23 attendees also received the first public glimpse of the new ship class.

Disney shared an early teaser of the vessels during the Horizons: A Carousel of Progress presentation, offering the first indication of what the next generation of the fleet could look like.

For now, Disney is keeping most details under wraps. We don’t yet know how the ships will be themed, which Disney stories will inspire their spaces, or how their onboard experiences might differ from the current fleet.

However, Disney has made it clear that the ships are being designed to occupy a unique place within the lineup rather than simply serving as smaller versions of the Wish class.

New Disney Cruise Ships Designed With Sustainability in Mind

Disney has also previously shared that the new vessel class is being designed with fuel and energy efficiency as a major priority.

The ships are expected to be among the lightest cruise vessels of their size in the industry, using a more hydrodynamic hull, lighter materials, and energy-efficient technology to reduce the amount of power needed to operate.

They will also feature battery systems to supplement the main engines and shore power technology that will allow the ships to connect to a port’s electrical grid while docked.

Disney says the ships are being designed to operate on a variety of lower-emission fuels, including hydrotreated vegetable oil and renewable methanol, while remaining adaptable as new fuel technologies become available.

Disney Cruise Line Is Expanding Around the World

The new ship class is only one piece of Disney Cruise Line’s global expansion.

The Disney Adventure is already sailing from Singapore, significantly expanding Disney Cruise Line’s presence in Southeast Asia.

Disney is also working with Oriental Land Company, which operates Tokyo Disney Resort, on a new Wish-class ship for the Japanese market. That vessel will further expand Disney cruising in Asia.

The three smaller next-generation vessels could give Disney even more opportunities to enter new markets and visit destinations that aren’t accessible to its largest ships.

Disney Cruise Line Ships

With so many ships joining the fleet, here’s how Disney Cruise Line’s current and announced vessels break down:

• Disney Magic and Disney Wonder: The two original Disney Cruise Line ships offer a smaller, more intimate experience than the newer vessels while still featuring Disney’s signature entertainment, dining, and family experiences.
• Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy: Larger than the original ships, the Dream-class vessels expanded Disney Cruise Line with additional restaurants, entertainment venues, and family activities.
• Disney Wish, Disney Treasure, Disney Destiny, and Disney Believe: Disney’s Wish-class ships are among the largest in the fleet, with each vessel built around a different overarching storytelling theme. The Disney Believe will complete the group when it begins sailing in late 2027.
• Disney Adventure: Currently the largest and most distinct ship in the fleet, the Disney Adventure sails from Singapore and features experiences inspired by Disney, Pixar, and Marvel stories.
• Disney’s New Ship Class: Three next-generation ships will fall between Disney’s classic and newer vessels in size, with the first scheduled to debut in 2029.
• Japan-Based Disney Cruise Ship: A separate Wish-class ship is being developed with Oriental Land Company for the Japanese market.

What We Still Don’t Know About Disney’s New Cruise Ships

While D23 gave us our first glimpse at Disney Cruise Line’s next ship class, there are still plenty of details left to reveal.

Disney has not announced the names, individual launch dates, home ports, itineraries, themes, restaurants, entertainment, or other onboard experiences for the three new vessels.

The ships’ smaller size is particularly intriguing, though, because Disney has now explicitly connected it with the ability to reach new places and audiences. As Disney Cruise Line grows from eight ships today to 13 in the coming years, these three vessels could play a major role in where Disney sails next.
